I'm not exactly a newbie, been in the club for 4 1/2 years and it has changed. Seen people come and go and sometimes join again!

It's a re-occuring thing, it does go quiet for a bit then picks up again.

I'm going to be the firt to admit that when I go to meets, I start talking to friends first, be it new or old members, and I tend to to engage in conversation with people I don't really know unless they speak to me first. It may appear that I'm cliquey but this is not the case. I'll help anyone out new or old. For instance a couple of years ago, when Catalunya Chris first joined he had problems with his scoob the day after most of us came back from JAE, I never spoke to him before hand, but after I saw his thread for help, I got in touch and sorted his car out.

Also, there's people like Frayz who will gladly give advice when asked, I know because I have asked his opinion on things. Frayz can come across as pretty brash, but he is a helpful guy and I personally think he's an asset to the club.
This is not to say that he's the only person who will help because that simply isn't the case, and I could go on and on about people who has helped me out.

Admittedly, compared to say 2 years ago, the ESC has slightly lost it's way, and I'm a little dis-heartened with the scene, which I've openly said to Brian, and his response was "We'll have to get you interested again". I find it frustrating when I post something, it appears to get ignored, and I know for a fact that several people have said exactly the same when they have posted, and come up with the same conclusion "why should I bother".

I may be disheartened with the club (hence not having an ESC supporters badge), but I'm not at the stage of wanting to sell the Scoob and move onto something else, as Spec 'C said, you'll only regret selling again!

The club has changed over the years, when I joined, it was pretty much a bloke's night out to the halfway house and Dick Turpin meets. Now it's a family affair, which has been a good move, it's opened the scene up to everyone. Again 2/3 years ago, there was so much going on and every weekend had one event on or another that I think it's taken it's toll, us "oldies" have been there, done it and got the T-shirts to prove it!

I'm going to be brutally honest and mean no disrespect, Tiny (and Karen I hasten to add) has done a great job of being a regional organiser over the last few years, maybe too good a job as it looks to me as he's exhausted himself and so the meets have gradually dwindled. So I personally think it's a good thing that Bri4n has taken over with some fresh blood to raise the game up again!

As with most things, there's always the rough and the smooth, but in my experience of the club, you can always count on the people in it to cheer you up, offer advice, be a shoulder to cry on and generally just be there!
I don't regret joining the ESC for one minute, I've made some incredible friends, especially those who say come round whenever you want for a coffee, then moan because I popped in just as the Moto GP started

The club is what you make of it, the more you put in, the more you get out. I haven't been to many events or meets recently and the ones I have gone to, I only stayed for about an hour or so because since my brother died, I feel as though there's a void in my life, and lost interest in things. I can't get motivated. I've want to fit the flamer back on my car and have got a flame cam to go on, but got no enthusiasm to do so. The only reason why I done the engine the other week, was because it HAD to be done.

I've been in the Sporting Escorts club, Capri Club international and the Marlin owners club, and they seriously redefine the word cliquey, so I don't think the ESC is that bad at all really

think that sums up things quite nicely Paul.

Like anything in life, no matter how good or bad, people change and therefore their priorites change. Tiny and Karen have built a club they can be VERY proud of.

But to keep the club going the newer members need to get stuck in, for want of a better phrase.

I am in no doubt that the ESC will continue on, with old and new members just as long as there are scoobies driven in essex.

I personally think some people rely too much on ESC planning their lives for them. Yes, we used to do a lot more, but life does not revolve around the club for many people.
The best thing about this club is you can go to as many or as little events as you like and noone would think good or bad of you.
I'm probably one of the least patient members and to be honest, not really interested in the mechanics of the cars anymore, more the social aspect of the club.
Life moves on for people and circumstances change.

To expect everything to stay like the "good ole days" is somewhat nieve. (sp)

I agree with both Paul & Spally..........

I've been in lots of different clubs of one sort or another (not car clubs I might add) and they all go through quiet times, but still bounce back with the members enthusiasm bringing it back up to the level it once was. It doesn't happen overnight, but with all the new members in the club, and Brian (and the rest of us) talking and encouraging them, I'm sure the ESC will be just as good as it's always been...........

Great post mate , I Could quote & comment on nearly everything you have mentioned but i will not ( Be here all night !! )

Will just comment on the highlighted area ..

Yes mate .. A few years back i used to see it as a personal challenge to make sure that there was some sort of " Active " Meet going on every weekend all year round , I Would sit down with Karen & say we could do this , This weekend , This the following weekend , etc etc .. In turn giving not just us , But everyone something to do

We would even have the occasoional day out on our own , And think this would make for a great meet , Hence the Brighton trips , Yarmouth , Maldon , I Could go on & on

This was during 05 / 2006 When i really worked @ getting the ESC Firmly stamped on the National scene

Yes it's taken it's toll , Yes i have lost interest big time & yes i guess i have run out of ideas , I Held onto the SIDC/ R/O Role 1 year more than i really should have but i really did not want to give it up , But it was YOU GUYS that were losing out , Me not getting ESC / SIDC Related threads up in time , Me not working close enough with Phil , Karyn , & Iian @ the time , Hence ME Contacting Br14n to try & inject us with a new lease of life

I Guees that me losing MY ENTHUSIASIM has also rubbed of on a few of you , As we have all worked closely over the years

Im keeping away from the meets for a while to try & get some of my love back , The same ole meets week in week out have dragged me down , Im trying desprateley to get my interest back , But i find i have better times @ the non scooby meets with ie : The RC Cars , Mountain bikes , Kites , GOLF , Games down the prom , & the pi$$ up @ Partys / Lodge , Rather than the Car related show meets

Tiny ...

Mate, you and K have done an amazing job, over the years i have often wondered how you have found the time to spend so much of it on the ESC.

But times and people change and move on, thats life, some will go separate ways, some will go stay together. For obvious reasons I cannot do the car events anymore, but the ESC has long since been more of a social club than a car club, and frankly is all the better for it.
So don't apologise for running out of steam, take a back seat and continue to enjoy the bits you still enjoy!

When I first got my scoob it seemed there were alot of newbies around and we all started going to new stuff at the same time and so all got to know each other.

For about 2 years we were doing something scooby related almost every weekend. The cars were new, the events were new, the friends were new......great times were had, friendships created.

For me, the whole ESC thing is more about the friendships I have created rather than just a car thing now. As Paul said, I have been there, done that, got several T-shirts and so a lot of shows and meets don't have the same "pull" as they did before.

It's a pity newbies feel left out, but you can't really blame the "oldies" for having created friendships before they were around. If anything, the newbies need to be making the effort to get together and create their own friendships and create the enthusiasm for going to shows and meets as we did before. I'm of course not implying that they shouldn't mingle and talk and make friends with the older members but that they shouldn't miss out on stuff purely because the older (and now more boring ) members don't wish to attend as many shows and events.

I must admit that several year ago, I vowed never to buy a turbo'd car in case it went wrong, the repair costs of Renault 5GT turbos, S1/2 RS Turbos and Cosworths scared the life out of me, but when I got Scoob No.1, the first thing I done was to join ScoobyNet, then the SIDC. I've learnt a hell of a lot from people on ScoobyNet, and am still learning new things/techniques. The great thing about the club is the fountain of knowledge contained by it's members, all you need to do is ask.

Newbies shouldn't feel daunted about joining in, yes it is scary, but we all were in those shoes at one time. We don't bite, well, not all of us anyway!!

If any Newbies want to organise an event, or have a suggestion for one, by all means, post it up. Over the years, we have built up loads of contacts and can help organise things. Lets continue making the club what it is

As a 'marginal' member of the ESC (e.g I don't go to many meets, or post or have any social contact with other members - mostly due to work and family commitments) I have to say when I do go and speak with other members, I find it very enjoyable and knowledgable (sp?)
It is great to know you can sit on the sidelines and know people don't think any worse of you, but to also know that there are great people out there who are willing to help you if you need it.
I do do my best to help others if and when I can - I just don't have any skills or crafts to help with :~

In response to Wozza's original problem of which there are many, there are 2 option's either get into kites rc cars fishing of golf,or you could get a commitee together of like minded people to come up with other thing's the club could do this may then appeal to newbies aswell as older member's.

Yvette - whats with this "blue rinse"????

and quite rightly - there is much more to the esc than the cars (just as well really cause we've been without our for months now ) - we are a really social bunch, and maybe a committee would help - although, would you old timers gain your enthusiasm back with a committee?

I have been reading this thread with interest,

Whilst not being the most active member when I had my scoobs I always enjoyed the meets I went to, and feel I have made some good friendships with some of you.

I am not the sort to turn up and talk to everyone and thankfully when I got involved there wasn't the numbers that there are now so it was easier to approach a few people rather than big gangs.

I can also honestly say that when I got rid of my first scoob it was mainly the pull of the ESC that made me want another, and again when I bought my last one, and whilst I loved my last scoob it was easier to let that one go and I now do not want another one and I think that it is probably due to how the ESC has evolved and also like the others I have done most of the meets at some time or another.

Don't get me wrong I do not think the ESC has gone bad or taken a wrong turn it just isn't something that I don't feel as connected to anymore (and this could be the case for others), however I will still come to the Posers and other bits and pieces as I enjoy the meet and the banter that often follows, plus I would be bored out of my head in work without the banter on this forum.

People grow out of things and get other interests and most of the old school have done their mods (Tiny excluded ) spoken about scoobs to death and attended all the shows multiple times so need something fresh.

I think the idea of a committee is a good one as it will allow some of the newer members to get involved and still do the car shows etc.

All IMHO of course

David

pmsl @ some of the comments in this thread. Most of the people in here were not at the original FFIC meets ... during those times we were all individuals. Meets worked because we all did our own crazy things and there was no air of arrogance of jealousy in anything. Now whenever i've been to meets (and I try my hardest to stay away) it's like sheep following a shepherd ... instead of doing what you are told to do people should just do their own thing and respect everyone else for what they are and what they have. In previous years meets were jam packed full of enthusiasts ... now it's more about showing off, licking **** and commercial success.
