Really? I couldn't get it to work using the built-in browser. It displays the usual pages, then drops into what looks like a mini Quicktime player, the "This movie can not be played" comes up.

Where am I going wrong?

Scratch that, the iplayer has been updated for the iPhone making that site redundant. Another reason the iPhone is superior.

Check the Apple website after 9 every evening and it lets you know what they've got for the following day.

A friend of mine wanted one and O2 and Carphone warehouse couldn't help but most of the Apple stores had them in stock (even the white 16gb one).

Even my wife (who has become somewhat girlie as my two daughters grow up) thinks that the white one is too camp!

I was tempted on a white one, but like the generic 'iPods are white and iPhones are black' thing (not sure why though! ).

Mine has been shipped. Supposed to be here tomorrow. Not sure I want it any more, it's legacy technology now.

Yes, and way too many people have them. If you weren't in that first Friday it is just SO yesterday.

(I still like mine though, er, my wife's )

The problem is it's so damn good you can't help but to use it all the time so needs a far heftier battery than what it has now.
I did mention somewhere else that the battery life is shocking, but only because (as you say) I want to use it all the time! If I'm wandering aimlessly around with my wife suddenly her phone goes missing and I'm playing with the internet, or watching something.

Well, despite O2's attempts to make it really difficult for me to upgrade to then new iPhone 3G, I've had mine about 4 days now, and it is such an improvement on the old one (which I hated).

The call quality is better, the signal strength is much improved and the UI seems quicker. I'm very happy with the new 3G iPhone and I couldn't recommend it enough to anyone considering one.

If the time taken to back up the iPhone is bugging you, this works.

Disable iTunes iPhone backup

I think I've found a pretty huge flaw. If 3g is on then that's all you're getting, no dropping down to GPRS or Edge. No 3g, no service till you turn 3g off!

Please tell me I'm wrong!!

Well it appears I only have 3G coverage at home, which explains why it's a bit sketchy

Someone tell me it's worth upgrading from the original iphone, i've heard nothing good about it yet, poor battery (supposedly lower capacity battery) poor screen, feels cheap and lightweight. I'm not bothering if it's just 3g thats the only improvement Not heard much about the GPS side of things yet, does it work?

I didn't have an original iPhone, but on the last point the GPS does work and is useful if you are challenged like me whilst wandering around London.

GPS does work, if you've switched it on at least.

When in maps, you need to press a small button in the bottom left of the screen - it'l be greyish blue when off and "Subaru WR blue" when switched on...

My iphone 3g has arrived (yet to be opened) but I'm in two minds to keep it or sell it on and keep my existing iphone classic.

I had a little play with a friends iphone 3g and I came way dissappointed. The GUI was slower, the 3G performance was poor (edge 286k, 3G 679k), let alone the GPS which failed to work! My friend even said it locks up sometimes and takes awhile to process tasks every so often. And don't even go there with the battery life

To me, Apple has cut corners to bring the cost down on the new model! It's a shame as I was looking forward to the new model Oh well, the iphone classic with 2.0 looks to be the way forward for me

I would be happy with the original if it wasn't for needing the 3g in Japan. 3g and GPS - which you can't help but play with - do drain the battery, turn them off and performance is better than the first edition contrary to common belief.

Saying that, Edge for data was acceptable, but 3g is sooo much faster, faster than my wifi connection at home most of the time, which will see my use of the unlimited data increase ten fold and means I can now switch my router to 5ghz and leave the phone on 3g.

Other pluses, you can plug your headphones in without an adaptor, it's a little louder, more GPS applications are arriving, it has mesh over it's orifices and you can say "nah, nah... nah, nah, nah" to people that don't have one yet.
