There is nothing quite like the sound of 4 Merlin V12's in a Lancaster, or a flyover by Vulcan at Biggin Hill.

I was a bit disappointed with the day yesterday. It wasn't bad by any means, and it was great to see the Vulcan again, and the Eurofighter, and the B1-B for the first time. The display though didn't seem too well organised imo. They shot through the A380 (amazing bit of kit), and the modern jets, but after that there seemed to be one display, then a big wait before the next. Previously when i've been to airshows, the displays have all seemed to flow quite nicely into each other, at an even pace.

And what was the Spitfire pilot doing before the Lanc and Hurricane turned up? He kind of put on a half display, but quite a way away from the centre of the display area. The same with the Vulcan. She took off, went over to the "hang around out of the way" area, then flew back a few minutes later and did it's display. Now maybe I missed it, but I didn't see any other traffic around while she wandered off behind the crowd

I thoguht the B1 was a disappoiontment - two slow flybyes, one with swept wing, one with straight and it didn't light up the burners at all
The B1 had it's fingers burnt on Thursday.

1. He crossed the display line on one of his runs, a big no-no.
2. Between run 1 and 2, he flew into the LHR OCKHAM hold at 6000ft.

Probably explains his somewhat disappointing display yesterday.

Sounds like a real dose of sheer incompetence to me. We often used to have USAF pilots flying into restricted or controlled areas. As for flying over the display line, he could not have read air display regulations or even listened to the pre display briefings!

Opps! I was a bit disappointed with the B1 flypasts as all i'd heard is that the pilot liked "opening it up" to put on a good show, yet that didn't happen. I guess you've explained why FlightMan.

Was anyone on here at Farnborough on the Thursday then? Must have been a noisy old show if he came over the display line, since the crowd control railings are only a few yards from the side of the runway anyway. It was probably like the good old days, when jets used to sneak up at high speed from directly behind and over the viewing masses and scare them half to death. Not so good if they crashed mind...

I rememeber those days Turbo2, but that was stopped after John Derry's aircraft disintegrated over the airfield and so many spectators were killed. I was there!

It was quite something when they flew overhead very low and fast and after they had passed you could still hear the singing noise from the vortices off the airframe.

There is a 1500 feet imaginary line in front of the crowd and officially you may not fly closer to the crowd than that.

I was there on Tuesday, and the B1 did 2 high speed passes, over the runway. My internal organs got a good going over.

Over the crowd would have been pretty impressive!
