Bob Rawle maps my car...... If youre suggesting he fudges stuff speak to him. He is very very well regarded as a great mapper...... simple as..... Bob maps for me too, excellent mapper. You misunderstand me, I was referring to your comment that Pat was showing two maps that he had cut and pasted rather than before and after.
I called Phil the car owner, yesterday to try and build bridges. I left a message on his cellphone, but so far no response. If he doesn't call, I can't tell him the new plan.

If you don't find value in a service it's pretty simple and easy not to use that service. If initial expectation was not met and the service came over unprofessional use your head and go else where.

That's a bit harsh and that comment is made 'blind ' To give you some background here:

I sold the car to Phil, It is a mint, limited edition 555 RA in Repsol Blue. I imported it fresh from Japan and did the usual full service including a cambelt change before selling it. He paid a very reasonable price and was / is full of praise for the quality and performance of the car we sold him.

Within a short time he managed to damage the engine. We rebuilt it properly under the warranty that API supplies, at our cost. Phil was delighted at the service, sh*t happens but we acted properly, took control and put him back on the road with a better car than he paid for. " Can't fault you for service " his exact words

We remapped the car at some time with a "Scooby ecu" Fitted an exhaust and so on. Everything is cool, always has been.

We were then tasked to fit 440cc injectors after a rolling road session he attended, showed that the original 380cc ones are maxxed out and running at 100% duty which is never good.

The car was remapped for injector duty only which is a very simple task and takes very little time. As Pat has explained above.

The car now drives differently to before and it is that which concerns Phil. It doesn't go like it did. Which is a complete mystery to all of us here, as nothing has changed other than injector duty coming down to achieve the same fuelling as before. I am convinced it is a sensation thing rather than a loss of power. But as l only drive the car occasionally, Phil obviously knows better than I, the characteristics of the car.

It is all very well sitting back without full command of the facts to say ' if you don't get good service go elsewhere " but in most cases it is a simple thing for two sensible adults to talk it through sort it out and move on.

Most customers are loyal and it takes heaven and earth for them to be persuaded to go elsewhere and take a chance on another companies policies and behaviour [ AND prices ] Therefore what is happening here is that a friend of the car owner decided to start a war that was not necessary.

Phil is coming here with the car next Wednesday for us to upgrade it to another level, at our expense, and get him back to where he ought to be or hopefully better.

Don't just go somewhere else, talk it through, shout if you think it is necessary, but for pities sake, talk.

It seems a great shame that so many people on this site insist on jumping in with both feet, slating a trader(in this case one of the best) before said trader has even had a chance to put things right(if needed).

I've had two dealings with Api,first time when i had an engine knock,i drove to them on a saturday, they took the car into the garage, had a good look and listen, gave me their honest opinion, then showed me round the workshop detailing all they did.I used up an hour of thier time, and when i offered money, they declined to take it!
Second occation was yesterday,i needed an oil pump, crank sprocket and woodruf key. They supplied them next day(i have them already!),oil pump was the cheapest modified one i found anywhere, and included the oil seal(most dont),also,i had a long talk with David and Nathan about other small mods, which im doing myself so no benifit to them, and they told me everything i could possibly need to know.

Long story short, don't take these kind of digs, especially by people that don't even own the car in question, seriously untill proper communication between the two parties has taken place.

Just my thoughts...

Exactly, this is why I do not agree with mates posting on someone's behalf! If someone feels they need to grumble on-line, it should be done personally and ONLY after they've exhausted attempts to get the situation resolved amicably in person.

I seem to recall another bloke coming on here and slating APi on behalf of a mate only for David to subsequently appear and say that the mate concerned couldn't have thought the service was to shabby as they were returning for upgrades the following week and had personally relayed to David how happy he was with the service.

If this car was maxxing out the injectors, is there not the possibility that it was running lean at the top end.

Then when the new injectors are fitted and mapped to suit, it won't be running lean top end, hence feeling slower?

Think thats how it works.

It doesn't work like that and no it wasn't and isn't lean at the top end.

Injectors will max out at anywhere in the range where demand is high, it is'nt just at high revs.

Back in 2001 i organised a mapping session at Scoobysport for my car and 2 other MY01 WRX cars.

I couldnt go in the end due to a work issue but the 2 others did, Pat mapped them both in under 1 1/2 hours.
I found this strange but they both brought the cars to me as they where some what unimpressed by the supposed gains after the re-maps.

I drove both cars and they felf flat to say the least, i contacted Scoobysport who where not very helpfull. I did though get hold of Pats number who after i had spoken to him direct agreed to travel up to Liverpool and take a look at both cars.

He didnt have to do this.

He agreed that there was room for additional tweaking and after 3 hours both cars where transformed, he then did my car from scratch and i was extremely happy. (Full de-cat, custom map = 291 BHP)

My point is when i spoke directly with Pat he was more than happy to sort us out, agreed he did put 20 odd chicken nuggets away faster than you wouldnt believe and his Legacy estate was a tip on wheels but he was very very helpfull and a nice guy who took our issues on board and sorted them.

I've made my point David it was never a war, just a thread about poor service. Fair play to you for sorting it ..............

Fair play to WMscooby for posting the thread referred to by David stating that the issue had been resolved.

This thread does demonstrate two things though:

1) If you have an issue, bring it up with the third party personally as soon as possible. Give them a chance to resolve it before you complain on here and please, if you're gonna complain, do it in person: if a person has a complaint, THEY should articulate it!

2) All traders will have times when things don't go so well, the mark of a good trader is the length they go to in order to rectify things.

I think this thread speaks volumes about David and the gang at Api

There is no hard and fast answer to that question.

It depends upon the nut behind the wheel.

a good indicator of a firm, is not that they have problems as we are all only human at the end of the day, but how these problems get resolved.

so for the information to the masses, how was this situation resolved?

Pat was one of the original mappers (only other old school guy I can think of was Bob Rawle) and used to map everywhere.

Before Zen was Pavlo. I still remembering Pavlo learning to map on my car and asking Pat different ideas. Now Paul has started Zen and maps his own. He obviously has has own mapping but learnt from somewhere.

Same as Tweenierob - he started mapping on my car as well and learnt from Pat and Pavlo. Now maps some 1200bhp skylines no problem.

Pat still maps for API and Scoobyclinic and others.

Sorry back to API thread. Just hate the free advertising of other companies! Maybe if Pavlo didnt learn from Pat, then he would have never started Zen?!
