Attention all scoobnetters with an EU Import
guys apologies as I haven't read all the replies to this thread, but I have had a Belgian sourced MY99 AND had warranty work done in the second year.
Basically IM will try any old BS to convince you that the waranty won't be honoured.
To cut a long story short, I have a letter from Ed Swatman saying, "your warranty is not valid because the Belgian warranty states the car must be serviced in Belgium". Nice of him to be thinking of his continental friend livelihoods ;-)
Utter nonsense. Just find a helpful dealer- phone around and you'll soon know if they are willing to help or not.
Fingers crossed you'll never need to claim anyway.

oops, not watching my own thread.
Just a post to echo what Nigel already said, Nick thanks for the input, looks like a day trip to Ieper in Belgium is on the cards
Edited just to add what had been discussed in another thread,
I have now had confirmation from Subaru Benelux that there is no change in their service intervals and there will be no change in the new service manuals issued with new cars.
So you can probably imagine what warranty implications there will be if we start getting them serviced by the UK under the new UK intervals.
Thought for the day
Have IM got it right on this one anyway, many knowlegable people on this board have stated that the current interval of 7500 is not enough so to increase it to 10000 seems odd.

I was told by my dealer in Belgium that all Belgian Scoobys have to stick to the service intervals in the service manual otherwise warranty would be void!!! Which means if we service to the new UK intervals, we are gonna be in trouble!!
Just athought does anyonw know what the M3 service intervals are??? Surely that sort of car would be similar if all things are eqaul and all. Or even frantic engined Type R. Maybe thats why they are stretching it to 10k intervals, going out on a limb a bit.Like i said just a thought. Yea i am known to have them occassionally.
Comparing to the M3 is probably nonsensical as it's a normally aspirated car so the oil isn't going to have to deal with the rigours the Turbo will put it under.
It's also a much larger engine so in theory is running in a comparitiely lower state of tune which is another reason why it's service intervals are likely to be longer....
Matt.

Yeh sorry Harry I thought you knew that already, must think I'm mad. Wasn't it u I spoke "well scoobynet posted" 2 when you were a newbie and I said about getting Alain to meet you at the port. 3000 BFr or something like that and no need for UK plates
or have I just lost it!

I don't think that you should compare against other cars. All the manufacturers care about is that the engines will last long enough to keep the average punter happy and no go bang during the warranty period.
So if you change your oil every 10 000 miles then you'll probably OK to 50 000 miles, a few people might have a problem. If you change it every 7 500 miles you reduce the risk of a problem and the engine should last longer.
I'm not planning on changing my car for 4 or 5 years, so I think frequent oil changes are a good thing. If you're not going to keep the car for more than 50 000 miles then 10 000 oil changes should be OK IMHO.
Has the timimg belt service changed as a result? Probably not

If thats the reason - and it seems a pretty good one then changing the oil yourself inbetween 10k or even 12k service intervals will help it keep going into the 100,000 plus camp. I know its the single best thing you can do to prolong any engines life, as i already change it inbetween service intervals at present, but i dont understand the reluctancy of Subaru uk or other to increase major intervals.
