The Nanodrive CFS is, on paper, the best oil available, but the Pro S, Red Line and CFS are really good oils, so all are good choices for your car.

Cheers buddy

Do you recommend I always run it on a 10W50 from this point on?

Hi Raf

I would use a 5w-40 synthetic in the engine.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul 300V, Red Line and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G/ULE, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

You need a 75w-90 for the gearbox and diff.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-...ion-fluid.aspx

If you want to go for the best, the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Gulf Competition, Motul Gear 300, Red Line 75w-90NS and Millers TRX are ideal for the gearbox. The Castrol Universal/Universal Plus, Motul Motylgear and Fuchs Gear Syn are all decent alternatives. The Fuchs Syn 5, Millers CRX, Redline 75w-90 GL5, Motul Gear 300 and Gulf Competition are ideal for the diff. The Fuchs Sintopoid, Castrol Syntrax Longlife, Millers TRX, Motul Motylgear, Mobil SHC and Gulf Syngear are also good choices.

Cheers

Hi Oilman, I'm after a recommendation on which gearbox oil to use.
Impreza STI
2002
370bhp
Fast road set up, no track use 'so far'
Also, how many litres would I need for the gearbox?

Thanks, Matt.

Default Good Idea For A Thread!

Didn't know this thread existed!

I've got an SH Forester XT MY09, running on E85 (with uprated fuel delivery: ID1000 injectors and DW65c fuel pump) and a 3" catted downpipe.

About to upgrade the turbo from the stock TD04 to a VF52, which should get me 200kw atw.

Currently using Motul 300V 5W40 (supplied by you ). I drive the car hard and the engine has always used oil (about 200 ml per week on average and even before the mods). Should I consider a thicker oil?

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott

Unfortunately, that engine seems to suffer from an issue where it can burn a lot of oil.

As you are in Sweden, I would probably go for a 5w-50 as it will give better cold start protection than a 10w-50.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-1039-5w-50.aspx

The Red Line and Motul are the best options there, but they are all decent oils.

Cheers

The diff needs a 75w-90 GL5 oil.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-...ion-fluid.aspx

The Fuchs Syn 5, Millers CRX, Redline 75w-90 GL5, Motul Gear 300 and Gulf Competition are ideal for the diff. The Fuchs Sintopoid, Castrol Syntrax Longlife, Millers TRX, Motul Motylgear, Mobil SHC and Gulf Syngear are also good choices.

Hi Kevin,

On an 07 model a good ester based 5w-40 or 10w-40 synthetic would be the top choice. Have a look at the Millers CFS, Fuchs Pro S, Gulf Competition and the Motul Sport here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-953-este...ngine-oil.aspx

Cheers

Hi Steve,

If you are off to the ring I would consider a 10w-50, either the Fuchs Pro S or the Millers CFS here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-953-este...ngine-oil.aspx

For the gearbox and diffs the most popular at the moment is the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT and the Motul Gear300 75w-90 and both can be found here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-90-gear-oil.aspx

Cheers

Hi guy thanks for your advice, I have been hearing great things about the pro s but I don't seem to find it on your site in 10w 40. I tend to drive hard when I can so this is the one to go for I believe. what is the next best option is for whatever reason this isn't available?

Also what oil should I be using my my gearbox and diff on a 2007 wrx

Many thanks

I don't think the Fuchs Titan Race Pro S brand comes in that grade. It's specifically 10W-50 (as is Pro R being specifically 15W-50).

But Millers CFS comes in different grades - inc. a 10W-40 - which is just as good. Get that.

Hi

A 10w-40 is ideal for your car.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-657-10w-40.aspx

The best ones are the Gulf Competition, Motul 300V, Red Line and Millers CFS. As a cheaper alternative the Fuchs Syn MC, Shell HX7, Motul 6100 and Millers EE/Trident are good choices.

You need a 75w-90 for the gearbox and diff and here are the ones we have.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-...ion-fluid.aspx

If you want to go for the best, the Millers CRX 75w-90 NT, Gulf Competition, Motul Gear 300, Red Line M75w-90NS and Millers TRX are ideal for the gearbox.

Here are the filters and plugs that we have.

http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-840-filt...uel-cabin.aspx
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-342-spar...low-plugs.aspx

Cheers

Subaru impreza wrx 2 litre 2005.

Mods
Andy Forester Td05 20g with supporting injectors etc and sti top mounted intercooler.
Running 370bhp.

'Road use' as daily drive, 30 miles total per day, with two or three daily full throttle blasts. Occasional long journeys at 3k RPM.

120k miles on the clock.

Compression good good, but seems to use a little oil.

Oil temps 85 normally but up to 95 after hard blast.

What engine and gearbox oil please?

Currently fully synthetic 5W-40 Magnatec (I think) I also replace oil every 3000 miles or less so the 5W went in for winter.

As long as it isn't using a huge amount of oil (a litre or more per 1000 miles), I'd stick with a 5w-40.
