Surprised nobody has mentioned a Clio 172, coilovers, caged and stripped one would make a great FWD track tool. Relatively cheap consumables as well and not too heavy on them either.

mr2 turbo?? it would have to be **** or atleast 4wd for the track, for me.

plenty of good cars in this tread. But for driving pleasure a DC2 is what its all about. With geometry and brakes they become giant killers if in the right hands. Add bombproof relaibilty and they reward like not much lese for years and years.
My DC2 has 101k on it, done 56 laps of the ring this year, not missed a beat, not used 1 set of tyres not even close and returns good MPG there and back.
Civic again can be made ghood.. but out the box not as good etc etc.
