I've been having a gander at some sites trying to understand the whole thing a bit more..
Each-Way Bet
An Each Way (EW) bet is basically two bets. A win bet like above and a place bet.
The first thing to know about an Each Way bet is how the staking works.
A bet of £25 EW is exactly as it sounds - "£25 each way" - i.e. Two £25 bets. So £25 EW is a £50 bet in all. The place part of the bet is essentially a backup bet. You will receive a return on this part of the bet if your selection wins but also if it nearly wins
Win
If the horse actually wins then the first thing to realise is that it also places - hence both bets win .. so if i placed a £2 each way bet that would be £4 right?
A) The win bet pays at 7 x £4 = £28 + your £2 win stake back
So i would get £30??

For an each way be at, £2 @ 7-1 you win as follows:
Comply or Die
7 x 2 = £14 for the win
+
(7 x 0.25) x 2 = £3.50 for the place
+ your orignal stake of £4
Total = £21.50
Plus..
Slim pickings
(0.25x12) x 2 =£6 For the place
+Your original stake of £4
Total = £10
Grand total = £31.50
I put £5 each way on Comply or die and I got back £53.73
so thats
The win + the place + the stake
(7x5) + ((7 x0.25) x5) + 10 = £53.75
Comply or Die
7 x 2 = £14 for the win
+
(7 x 0.25) x 2 = £3.50 for the place
+ your orignal stake of £4
Total = £21.50

SIMON (12-1): Thrived in races that demanded stamina last season and was going well in the National itself, up with the pace, when exiting six out. Sound jumper on the whole and has continued on the up this campaign - recording solid runs in defeat at Cheltenham and Kempton when crying out for farther on each occasion. Is 8lb higher in the ratings than 12 months ago and will have to do without the services of regular jockey Andrew Thornton (injured), but big run on the cards as he seems happy on any ground. Definite for shortlist, even if your name isn't Simon.
1) My name is Simon
2) The race is on my birthday
Worth a few quid ?

Woohoo the Betfair free bet works, bet £25 {on horses precviously posted} and they gave me my £25 back into my account plus 1 had the winner which netted me another £26.10 so that turned out to be a nice little offer.
Just withdrew it to my account so a couple of days time it'll be in.
