gutless MY00's

Hi Harry,
The ECU price is correct.
The data logging software is £199 with no VAT to pay, direct from EcuTek.
Sorry for any confusion.
By tomorrow, the web site will be up - http://www.ecutek.com
There are still some gaps to fill in, but feel free to browse and give us any feedback you like.
Regs.

If I was starting again I would buy a decat system, panel filter and either the off the shelf £500 remap or a custom remap with a big turbo. The value for money vs safety vs performance of the latter should be incredible.

I just checked my Dutch import MY00 over the weekend and unsurprisingly it's the green AE802 :-( ... and I cut my fingers on that bl***y cover plate :-o
This my first Scooby so it's difficult to judge if it feels gutless but it has always had a flat spot just after changing up from high revs (6,000+) in 2nd to third. I always put this down to me being hopeless at pedal coordination but now I'm wondering if it's the hesitation people have mentioned.
Can anyone enlighten me ?
Thanks,
Andy.

I put an AE800 in my MY00 without any problems.the only way a select monitor would help in my opinion,is to reset the ECU,as I am not convinced the under dash wire way works.after the dealer services my car they do a select monitor reset, the car feels sluggish and does not boost as well for a few miles afterwards.the under dash wire way does not seem to do anything like this.

It has got different diffs and a 6 speed box so the figures do not compare unfortunately. Why would they quote 262 BHP/265 PS if it makes more? I don't think you can say Subarus always make more than quoted on new engines unless you bench dyno them and even that is an inexact science. Forgive my cynicism, but the PWR of the STi just does not interest me.

Hi Otis,
Don't try it with the engine running will you ?
It probably wouldn't like that :-)
If we're going to be paranoid...
Seriously though...Never have the ignition on when you swap them out, or obviously they are going to be powered up when they are unplugged.
Make sure you don't damage your wiring loom.
The kick plate is as effective at slicing PVC as it is at skin.
Both ScoobySnacks and I have had 5 different ECUs in our cars without trouble. And there is no immobiliser issue for us. Tell us who this garage is, so we all know who to avoid.

Intrigued about the £500 ECU by post option. Any dyno results? How much boost does it run? Where is the fuel cut?
Will it give more power and torque than a PPP decat running 18 PSI with a boost controller?
How rich does it run at the top end?
At what point does it hit maximum boost?
Any boost curves?
Lots of questions I know!
Assuming I can change the fuelling with a fuel computer, how much gain would you expect from optimising ignition advance in terms of outright power?

I also have a question after John's is answered offcourse.
Would Ecutec be able to program a standard ECU to a car with mods, such as an exhaust, induction, bigger turbo, seperate boost controller, etc?
Cheers,
Wrexy.

With any car, power depends on your mods, and how extreme you tune the car. John, you run higher boost than I would want to put on a car as a standard pack, but the ECU can do it, if that's what you would need, though that would be a custom map.
Lots of power plots will appear on the site soon. I've opened up the site early, so hopefully I get a bit more time to code & test, and spend a bit less time answering questions (hint!!) :-)
Have a look at www.steve.ukmail.org/car/induction.gif. Graph is of flywheel torque. That's my car and the results. Peak boost was 18.4PSI (a little high), trough is 16.1PSI, held is 16.7PSI. Peak torque of 300lbft was produced at 4570RPM with a boost pressure of 16.3PSI. Peak power of 292 BHP was produced at 5620RPM with 14.1PSI of boost. Stats were captured with DeltaDash, of course :-) I think I need a bigger turbo, don't you ?
More to come soon, but at www.ecutek.com. We have a busy week ahead !
Cheers
