FUEL AND TAX PRICE PROTEST 19TH JULY

I suggest a slow convoy blocking all lanes. The Police will hear about this quickly once we're moving if they don't get wind of it in advance - no doubt they will arrest people that stop & block the road with this being more difficult (not impossible though) if convoy is slow moving. They may of course get ahead of the convoy, roadblock us, arrest people & start removing cars if the congestion is bad enough! No pain, no gain ...
TX.
TX.
I totally agree with what you are all saying and I think its daylight robbery what the gouverment is doing to our country. I am not just talking about fuel prices etc but the whole thing I am and would love to move and leave this country behind as its going down the pan.
Now I personally don't vote and I know I shouldn't moan about things and the way things are going etc, but the reason I don't vote is because there all full of 5hite and they fill you with bull so they can get in, then that's it for 4 years
Anyway my concern would be towards the police and people who are actually doing something for their country and fellow enthusiasts only to be possibly arrested or having their car taken away and impounded
It all sounds great and and interesting, but I can't help see the negative side of things (sorry just me) and feel that how ever many vehicles you get to go on this it will all be for nothing (don't shoot me down its just my opinion as we all have one) I do hope however that something can be done for all our sakes right across the country and for every individual in some way or another.
I may be there somewhere (depending on my fuel situation) but I have posted up on my forums the link to the website and I will pop it on others that I descend upon
Hope all goes well with this and I hope you all can make a difference some where
P.S. Maybe people taking walkie talkies might help with emergency vehicles (if any) that may need to get through the traffic.
P.P.S. What about if the local police (where ever you plan to start it) was involved at the start and forewarned so that they may be able to help organise the convoy. Like they do when there are wide loads travelling or when there just about to re-open a road after an accident has been cleared
Just a thought

I was initially thinking of driving down the M1 to the Ace Cafe in London but have been advised that there may not be enough room as it only holds 50 cars or so.
any ideas just chuck them at me

I have noticed on your web page that the date for this is the 19th July 2008 is this a definate and have you thought of any meeting points also if you are interested there is a truck stop just off M1 at junction 9 that I could get you the details of for a meeting point (if they will let us meet there) before going into London or round M25

Guy's,
Don't really want to p1ss on any bonfires, but do you really think that the government will do anything because 200 more cars drive around the M25 at 40-50 mph?
Playing devils advocate, they'll just thank you for using more fuel, paying more tax and slowing down the traffic, making the M25 a safer road.
Maybe a national campaign of boycotting major petrol stations, a month at a time:
BP in Oct 08
Shell in Nov 08
ESSO in Dec 08
Gulf in Jan 09 etc.
Obviously we'll have to do the supermarkets too, not that many of us use their lower octane crap. Tesco’s 99 isn’t too bad.
It's not just the government inflating the fuel prices, we could damage the fat profits of the petro industry and force te prices down this way.
Just a suggestion…
As for road tax, scrapping the currrent road tax system and putting a penny on a litre of petrol and diesel would be fair, you pay for how much your car drinks and the milage driven, so Mrs Miggins in her 4.0 4x4 who drives 2000 miles P.A still pays £75 per year road tax and Mr Bloggs in his 1.1 Fiesta doing 40K miles P.A pays £200 per year. All of the foreign drivers pay to use our roads and its impossible to tax cheat. A government depatment could close saving the tax payer again, steamlining!
Oh I'm on my soap box now ;-)

Even if it just serves to get the ball rolling it's better than sitting around doing nothing and b*tching about it. The other thing is that people are more likely to turn up to a protest, whereas with boycotting fuel it's not always as convenient to just boycott one petrol station, especially like me if you only have a few nearby and they're all run by the same companies!
The only way to do that realistically is to involve the hauliers and get them to blockade the depots like they did before - we could try it with cars too I guess.... but I'm still on for the protest either way!
#221
Mind you 200 cars could easily block up 3 lanes couldn't they ?
What I really can't believe is that more people in more groups aren't supporting this I mean unless you like the **** being taken whats one day of your life to stand up and be counted. If there were 5000 cars I'm sure it would make a difference !

i think its the case of, people are scared/cant be bothered to do it. typical. if there is a smaller amount of us though we wil just have to adjust our game plan to be more effective, as in blocking off the depots or something similar??
#223
Not quite sure about a convoy going into London on a Saturday to be honest, that's probably the quietest day of the week in the capital and therefore will probably not cause too much disruption?
#224
No problem if it's in week for me .... well worth a day off I think ... although the numbers will drop of course.

The thing is we are a nation of moaners, yet we sit and are prepared to do nothing (i'm guilty of this as well)
Ok we sit here whilst the goverment in the meantime thinks its fine and dandy just to target the easy option with regards to taxation - The Motorist - yet again!
Ok we'll disguise it as a green taxtation that way we'll get the support of the media as its helping the enviroment - absolute twaddle imo
Refering to my website, Ok for a minute we'll forget our super dooper high powered Subarus and the like, lets take a bog basic standard family car A Ford Mondeo 1.8LX, not exatly a fire breathing monster, yet tax on this vehicle will go up to 260 pounds a year, lets go even smaller - A Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 Shopping car - not exatly a car for putting a large hole in the ozone layer is it yet you'll pay 200 quid a year for the privilege.
Do you think thats fair? you tell me!
I've sat and asked myself can we actually make a difference, i mean lets face it nearly a million people protested against the war in Iraq and still they carried on.
The sheer arrogance of this goverment is ridiculous, do you see Gordon driving about in a Toyota Prius? - no, why because we bloody well pay for it.
They as MP's use every loophole in the book to grease their palms. Did you know they have spent over 100 grand of taxpayers money on lawyers fees to fight the proposal that they have to declare expenses.
Now MPs go to court to keep expenses a secret - Mirror.co.uk
Dont do as we do, do as we say - the hypocrisy shown by the powers that be are simply unbelievable.
Ok back on track before i have a coronary
Will we make a difference - Ok maybe not but if one councillor or MP sits up and takes notice then surely its worth doing.
And when the price of petrol goes up to 1.50 a litre then at least you can say we had a go instead of sitting doing nothing.
And if one car turns up then **** it i'll still go, but at least i'm prepared to do something.
So lets put up or shut up!
Over and out!

I still think we should drive to number 10 and knock on the door and speak to the PM himself , this will get on the news for sure , 200 or more cars around 10 downing street would cause problems, just a thought

If I wasn't overseas doing my duty for the military & crap government I'd come along to show my support. However... I'll be their in spirit.
As a member of the armed forces I see the decisions that the politicians make every day and have to act upon them. At times they are good one but mainly bad.
If I was the grand fromage in No 10. I'd bring the troops home and stop sending money overseas for 5 years. Some of this saved money could be invested in the NHS/schools/emergency services/properly equiping the armed forces.
Time for a change at No10 I think.
They won't listen or take note of petitions, millions of people signed the anti-war one, yet still I'm off to the middle east this month!
Also, with the reduction in spending, no new stealth taxes! Bonus.

Even at 100 cars it will work. Block 3 lanes & the convoy will be 33 cars deep. Driving slowly will do it, I suggest 30mph rather than 50mph. It will cause chaos behind us which is the point. Driving slowly is not yet an offence is it?

Everyone you talk to nowadays are fed up and it seems a waste of time working just to pay bills and make ends meet. We really need to get the publicity to make this have any effect, the papers will love it.
When the general public see it on the TV and in the papers, whats most going to think, yea I'm along with what they are doing as we are getting ripped of with everything. This is not just about road tax and fuel from my part, its all the taxes we pay that I'll be there for the support.
The more protests against the government and the bubble will burst.
Just wish everyone would refuse to work for one week, that would make a point!

Chief - have you had any further thoughts yet as to the plan (i.e. the final route), and has anybody contacted the police to test the waters yet (after all, we don't necessarily have to tell them when and where it will be, we could just ask what's the maximum we can do without getting arrested! Would be good to know what "the limits" are supposed to be at least).
Says on the website Saturday 19th July, but then it also says "to be decided within one week" - so does this mean you'll confirm it this week?
I'm definitely game for the drive down the M1 and round the M25, or even into outskirts of London, but I'm f**ked if I'm going to give money to Ken for the privilege of driving round the capital (unless of course there's no C charge on Saturday? Dunno....). BTW I'd still do this on a work day - would be happy to take a day off to stick two fingers up at Mr.Brown et al

Agreed dont think its a good idea going right into London and giving that greedy **** the satisfaction of taking a charge off us.
I really need some ideas where to park inside the M25, places of motoring significance. I was thinking the Ace Cafe but i've been told there would not be enough room.
The idea i have is a drive down the M1 and end up somewhere inside the M25 but it needs to have sufficient parking.
help me out guys, i'm a Northern nancy and dont know 'The Smoke' that well
Cheers
