how much do u use per litre of fuel, can u add enough to give you say 100 or 102 ron, would it give any noticeable difference or less chance of detonation?

10% methanol and 2ml of NF for every litre of fuel/meth mix

i.e. 60ltr tank - 6ltr methanol - 120ml NF

Thanks for that
been looking into methanol today
There is a place 400 yards down the road where I can get methanol
So I will get a few large tins to keep it in.
dont do that many miles so should be able to keep up with the methanol.
the car is only 18 month old and I have not got round to fitting an ecu where I can run 2 or more maps, but I have looked them up just to get info on what they can do.
the car is running 300bhp and 370Lbs t
just want to get it going upto 330 bhp as I'v been told the 2.5s are only good for 350 bhp without doing the internals
I know at some time the engine will blow
when that happens it will be a re-build with stonger internals and a different ecu.
with a bit of look should have another 18 month before that happens

thanks

Tim

I'v been led to understand that I need to change my fuel lines

Stock 2.5's are a lot stronger than some think , 400/400 is no problem as long as it is mapped completely det free...

im mapped on 100/150ml of nf per tank. havent got her up the rollers yet but advanced ignition can only mean more power. when i save up for a simtek i'll go for meth map to i think.
silly question but do you have to map over a period of time i.e one day map on normal v power then go back with the meth and nf in the tank

I'm going to be doing this soon, i'm going to have just Tesco99 in the car to do the first map, then once thats done pop in to Tesco add 5litres of Meth and 100ml of NF and fill the tank up then do the second map.

Yeah will check before doing it, those figures are based on a 50 litre tank, would be 6 litres and 120ml of NF for 60 litres.

On the back cover of my 1998 Impreza owners manual it says, non Turbo 50 litres and Turbo 60 Litres... But I think my 1998 classic turbo is only 50 litres? I seem to remember it going up from 50 to 60 Litres when they introduced the "new" body shell...

My old 94 was a 50l tank but I thought that the 60l tanks came in with the phase 2 classics, ie around 98.

With Methanol, would you see any increase on a car that wasn't mapped for it? ie would the std ECU and map increase to suit?

Not really - the main benefit of methanol is to enable more ignition advance to be run, which requires mapping to achieve this. Methanol will stop det and allow you to get the best out of your existing map, but then so will good old V-Power. Also, slinging in methanol without fuelling adjustments in the map will result in a lean air/fuel mix.

BioEthanol is the future

Forget your messing around with low octane Methanol

Methanol is great but it is tricky stuff to handle. I saw massive improvements on the std turbo set up on my car because the turbo was at its limits and could not get enough oxygen into the cylinders to produce the power. As methanol contains oxygen it makes up for the deficiencies of the turbo and allows more of everything.

With mine I got an extra 0.2 bar of boost AND more ignition advance because methanol NEEDS more advance due to it being slower burning.

Net result for me was quite impressive in pub figures (ie peaks) but the area under the curve was a vast improvement and thats what makes for a quick car.
