Excellent, my favourite subject. Essentially you're screwed. 85 miles is spot on for £20. Don't for one minute think you're going to make any significant improvement to your fuel economy. There seems to be a noticable difference between the lighter classic and the newage models, but other than that the differences are all down to the type of driving you're doing.
I don't mean to be rude to other posters, but you have to take claims of 300+ miles to tank with a pinch of salt. If you are only putting in £20 a time then you obviously aren't doing long journeys. There is no way you're going to get the equivalent of 300 miles to a tank without sitting on the motorway at a steady 70 mph (ish).
I'm scoobynet's resident boring bugger when it comes to fuel economy and general running costs of cars. From the tone of your original post you sound like a regular guy that could really do without spending £20 on petrol every 85 miles. I would think very hard about how much more comfortable life would be if you could save a couple of hundred quid a month on running costs. Inexpensive to run does not have to mean boring.
