Armstrong then got back into his van and drove after the person. Person then hid in some bushes and was spotted by Armstrong, who then drove at him.

I would say that's quite a lot different from what your Sister did.

Thats a fair comment and I agree Pete that the stories are different and that the guy reacted in a somewhat premeditated fashion but the formative word has surely got to be REACTED. As Paul says, the thug made a series of choices that culminated in a poor outcome for him. The guy in the van may have still been reacted to those chioces on sheer fear as opposed to calm, thought out premeditation.

Like my sister this guy reacted to a threat.

And his reaction was to try an kill a man who was running away at the time. The threat was long over.

If you bump someone in the pub and they punch your face in because they thought you were a threat is that ok? of course not, your reactions have to be approriate - his wasnt.

And before any sheep start on about "a bump in the pub isnt the same as this thug with a knife" you need to (i know this will be hard) stop and think - this is NOT a thread about the thug, its about the reaction.

To all those saying he shouldn't have been punished:

What if he'd mistaken the identity of the thug and mown down the wrong person? Would that be justifiable as "there will always be a percentage of errors". I don't think so. That's why we have police, courts, gathering evidence, opportunity to put a defence, etc.

It is better for ten guilty men to go free rather than one innocent man be imprisoned. Seems like a lot of people now think that the opposite is true

Not signed due to deliberate unnecessary distortion.

LOL at all the "I'd have done the same" comments....

As others have said, the perp was running away.... so by chasing him and running him over/crushing him he committed M-U-R-D-E-R, simple really....

One less ******** around.... but it's still worthy of a stretch in HMG's finest

The little bar steward got what he deserved but you can't use a car as an offensive weapon.

If it were me I'd have probably done the same and be in prison too. Its a crap state of affairs but thats how things are these days.

BTW DCI - like the quote - funnily enough I watched it last night.

Different if your single with no kids though - this guy was a married dad, with responsibilities to others that should have come ahead of his anger management issues.

True, but should someone attack me, my wife or my daughter then I would naturally do anything to protect them.

I imagine its not the easiest of times to think things through logically whilst being attacked with knife and bar.

I didn't realise you had a family. Your suggestion that if it was you you'd have done the same suggest you either posted a little exageratively or don't give two hoots about the people around you.

Lets hope its the former?

LOL

My post was supposed to suggest I would do what it took to ensure my familys' safety. If that meant the person attacking me got hit by the car as we escaped that would be a different issue to what apparently took place.

Having read the other posts containing other details that I have no idea are correct then I would stand by my statement that you can't use a vehicle as an offensive weapon in what appears to be a revenge attack of sorts.

To suggest that it implied I didn't care about the people around me is laughable.

Not really...you said "If it were me I'd have probably done the same and be in prison too."

So you would go to prison and leave your family, that seems a pretty selfish act to me. Its not like you are in any danger, you simply CHOOSE to chase down a fleeing man, in your car, mount a pavement and crush him.

If it were me, i wouldn't do that.

So you either posted without understanding the facts of the case, exaggerated for dramatic effect or don't care about your family. If there's an alternative explanation what is it?

nice to see people looking past the newspaper hype and looking at what really happened, the papers print what they like to spice up a story

I would like your opinions on this story, it was all over the TV and newspapers, and depending on which you read it was a shop robbery, a car jacking, or a mugging

this story is gathering legs in this country and India, Tony Singh is now being called a hero, take a good look at his picture take less than 48 hours after the attack were he has "battled for his life" and is back at work

Cant believe all the 'bad cop', 'tough love' attitudes here.

Your very cleverness seems to make me want you to be the next victim of mindeless violence, and then see how cleverly and how smugly you contain any rage in the face of your disturbingly legal based interpretation of current society's permited (and ineffective) legal realities... I sense your Mr Logic will enter the real world or 'jungle' and start getting real at last...

Put it in your pocket super heroes/barristers/cow towers; the real world is different and reacts better to short sharp justice than fines and protracted legal procedings or pontifications by wordy individuals who would run a mile from a spider, let a lone a blade...

Well its a good start - however well need to draft in a few more prison ships first...

Then theres national service , dont care whoose nation - forced personal mine clearance perhaps.

Couldnt comment on the case - except that a car is the most deadly weapon 99% of us will ever get our hands on.

If ever there was proof of the correlation between excess use of smiles and mental disability, its here.

Its the forum equivalent of the village idiot, grinning and dribbling at anything.

Do you mean the "thug"?

If so....

a) Its not an issue as i dont live in a ****hole. My family value my income and the area it allows us to be in over my back bone.

b) I would rather let the thug run off than go to jail. My family value me over me showing back bone.

In summary, if you live in a ****hole, have little income and a family that wouldnt miss you - drive over the thug.

If my life was so grim that prison is an improvement I'm not sure I'd be so happy???? Maybe you should get someone to drive over you....just to end the misery.
