Lets be honest here guys whilst the bloke is a *** for a)using the phone and b) lying to the police they aren't going to bother doing anything.I would be surprised if they ever even bother to check the phone records can you imagine how much work they would have to do? and then all the paperwork......Mind you it was a motorbike officer they always seem more persistant then other policemen. Thing I would be worried about though is who is watching this thread, you do know people have been done for bragging about speeding on forums before.

I know that this may sound harsh but I really hope that the guy does get caught by the police.
Its to$$ers like this that cause major accidents and walk away with out a scratch but the poor sod that they hit is hospitalised!!!

PULL OVER if on the phone.. MY insurance is enough on the scoob, i dont need it to be more expensive cos some dikhead decides to phone while driving and then crashing... i followed a lass on the motorway on the way home... plain as day you could see her on the phone... for 20 mins i followed her in the middle lane, and still she jabbered on... i pulled out to overtake her, pulled along side, an angrily made gestures for her to get off the phone... she then removed her hand that was holding the wheel, and gave me a V sign, whilst holdin the phone with the other...

it really does get my goat.

Im a HGV 1 driver, on the road 5/6 days a week every week. The amount of ignorant/arrogent/selfish drivers that i see with their mobile stuck to their heads is uncountable.
If i, as a vocational driver was caught on my mobile i face a £2000 fine and disqualification, thats a big chunk out of my savings and no job to earn it back.
The penalties for using your phone whilst driving a car are not large enough, and the police donnot enforce the law strongly enough.
The amount of accidents/serious injury and deaths caused by the afore mentioned selfish b*st*rds is uncountable. £60 and 3 pionts come on!!
No excuses for not having a hands free kit.
Anyway just my opinion as a proffesional driver.

And funny he has deleted the post too......... just another case of an unenforcable law in this country,has made no difference it being an endorsable offence now either,no police on the road to enforce it,so mindless idiots just continue to put others at risk....... I may as well make a recommendation - the Bluetooth Parrot mini-kit for under £50 is truly great! It clips on to your sunvisor so is out of sight whilst you are not in the car, clarity is top-notch for both you and the person on the other end, and it lasts for ages between charges (240hrs stby). You can move it between cars or use it on a desk too. Can't fault it.

Absolutely. If the cell nearest the user is busy the mobile will connect to another cell, then back onto the nearest cell before moving into another cell further down the road.

As for the unmpty on the phone I too hope he gets what he deserves

That's the one! Don't look at the pictures too closely on that - you don't have to have your lips nearly touching it to talk You just look forward whilst driving as normal and talk - it picks up everything. It's also well out of the way when the visor is not in use.

To be fair and balanced.. I've seen more than just a few HGV drivers using a hand-held phone as well.. so lets not just point the finger at car drivers. I think the only group of road users who can claim to be totally innocent are Motorcycle riders!

Last weekend I was driving up the city - single carriageway road, roundabout, duel carriageway road - a Saab estate was in front of me and another car, went around the roundabout, hovered in between the two duel lanes before finally getting his **** over. I pulled alongside and had a look at the driver, who had a mobile stuck to his head, he obviously sensed a car alongside and looked over, I just shook my head at him and pulled away. The thing what really pissed me off was that the car was FULL of adults - surely someone else should/could have taken the phone??

I can accept someone picking it up and saying "I'm driving - call you back later"; but to drive along having a full conversation while in a car full of people perfectly capable of saying "he's busy" is just nuts.

If you have access to the cell tower records you can triangulate the position of the phone depending on the signal strength from each tower. It is possible - but as I said - the amount of work this would take to do this for a "minor" offence, it would be stupid.
