The first rule of the 22b club is you don't talk about the 22b
Seriously though its all about personal taste, I really don't like the shape, feel or look of new cars, not only Scooby's but new cars in general. I also have a tendency for iconic cars.
The 22b is and will be for a long time the pinnacle Subaru to own.
I have had the pleasure to drive in a lot of Subaru's, new and old, and there is nothing like a good classic hence why I bought a P1.

The proof of the desirability of a car is in it's market value. The 22B's value is well above that of an ordinary impreza of the same age, ergo it is of special value. And rightly so, I would have a Google and looks at the History and Engineering that went into these cars if you really want to know what makes them so good.Think that only 16 were officially imported into the UK, and some of them were company cars used by the Rally Drivers and Prodrive.

Why on earth would you want to pay 25K or even the 18K for a 10 year old Jap car?
Firstly the interior will be ugly as hell & out dated.
Probably also be full of the 20+ dials the previous 3 owners have had fitted.
Seriously though.
Plus a new age car is going to be quicker, more refined, much more pleasant inside.
Cheaper to insure and run

I didn't say it would be a shed, just that the interior would be ugly as hell & outdated.
Plus I don't have any intentions on having a 10 year old car either.

To be honest, while I acknowledge the important role that the 22B has played, if I was looking to spend that sort of money on an Impreza i'd rather add a bit more and get a Spec C Ra-R.
I must be the only person who gets Urban's point.

No, I get his point too. I'd take it one step further and say if you're going to spend £25k on a car, no Impreza new or old would feature on my list. I've been fortunate enough to have owned 2 £30k Imprezas, a 22b being one, and I have to say VFM wise they are leagues below certain £6k Imprezas that will do much the same but won't win the scoobymeet carpark bragging prize.
Yes the 22b is the pinnacle of Impreza ownership, but you soon tire of worrying about panel damage or a rebuild. For sheer praticality and performance, I now own the best Impreza I've had, a W reg 4 door classic, modded naturally Not bad for a car that cost less than 7k all in (including rebuild and mods)

Whilst the 22b is one of, if not the best lOOking and desirable imprezas, i would still get something newer.
I couldn't keep the 22b standard, thus retaining value.

Is it my computer screen or soes the bonnet on the link 22b look a very slightly different shade to the wings and the rest of the car?
And why the hell would you want to spoil it with livery?

Think 25K is a bit steep, particularly as they paid 18K for it !
But - a low mileage, original good condition 22B probably will hold its value and increase over time. Look at any iconic cars ( E-Type, GT40, Countach, DB5, Escort Cosworth etc... ) and they all hold their value and become more desirable with age.
No other standard model Imprezas, new or old, are going to increase in value with age as they are too common.

Whilst I still like the 22B, £25K buys you a lot of car. Yes, it's an iconic piece of motorsport history.
But a big dose of reality salts here - it's a 10 yr old car that would only appeal to a die-hard enthusiast.
ALL IMHO

It's not that difficult to see why they're still so expensive though ...£50K (£40K JDM's) when new, limited to only 400 or so & probably the best looking Impreza ever. Doesn't really matter what it goes like when it has all of the above
But i wouldn't pay £25K for one & agree with nutta ...as it's not the most capable Impreza (it's not even the most capable classic imho)

I bought mine because I couldnt get a good escort RS 1800,in my opinion they are the next best rally car to the escort,so thats why I got mine.you say that you wouldnt pay 25 for a 22b,so hears a new one for you to be going on with, would you pay 40 grand for an escort RS 18,the best ever rally car its all down to the person if thats what they want let them do it.
