Arrh- happy memories... I remember in the 80's my best mate "borrowing" his mums new lancia delta integrale (now there was a car) and driving it all the way down the garage wall trying to sneak it back in afterwards. guess he was 16 or 17 at the time.

insurance- well I just cannot see or justify paying big money to insure, after all what is only a car. maybe I'm an old git but if yr earning sod all as a youngster- why cripple yrself with big payments.

daft thing, I bet we're not even talking about nice, impressive new cars- what is an 18 yr old going to buy- some 10-15 yr old sheddy trashed scooby with a load of tat bolted to it. ???

I bought 54 plate WRX top SL model last yr- so worth lots of cash. brought a lump to my throat paying £500 I remeber saying to subaru dealer- if I can't get a good ins deal- forget it- its only a nice car.

trick with cars--- don't borrow money to buy them, don't borrow money to insure them.

what really costs is fuel, repairs etc.

A friend bought his teenage son TWO imprezas. oh yes- being young and an idiot young driver- he wrote both off. loss to dad of £35 K all totted up.

to be fair he should never have bought the second one after first crash.

son in theory owes dad the money. you tell me shortly if he meets a girl and wants to settle down, hows he going to buy a hse to live with that debt kicking about.

rant over
