Yeah the rear rad setup worked perfectly, kept about 70-75 all day, but the weather was cold and wet and we didn't use the antilag, so it's about what we expected.

And yes the dog box worked perfectly thanks. I'll be honest, i'm so glad we had a dog box as we had an issue with the clutch in the afternoon. We used it just to get the car off the line, then i just cogged it through the dog box during the race.
I was only planning on shifting like a normal sycro box for the first few events, but that plan went out the window! lol.

Suppose i had better do a quick update :-)

Well, lydden went aswell as could be expected with a very tough / experianced grid of supercars and we finished 3rd in the B-final (10th overall). We also lost power steering in practise which made the day tricky (and yes my arms are aching today!!) but we battled on regardless and at the end of the day was getting on the pace.

We also lost the clutch (again for the second event in a row) in the 3rd heat which made the starts very tricky. In the dry the lack of launch control or antilag also showed against the bigger boys, but we will have these fettled for the next event.

The main positives from the event was that we where quicker than the other subaru on the grid (which is far more developed and running with loads of wrc / prodrive parts) and we where reasonably on the pace despite running a safe map on the car, so there is more to come from it yet.

We had loads and loads of great comments from the public on the looks and performance of the car which is very encouraging for the future.

Regards the pic's above, if anyone can get me high res copies of those images i would be very greatful as they are good photos, especially the bottom one.

It's been a while, so thought i'd better do an update..

Well over the last few months we have built a totally fresh race engine for 2010 with a bit of help from some of the guys on scoobynet.

The engine is again a ej20 CDB, but with a new cosworth bottom end, i've kept the same heads as last year, but with some new custom profiled cams to move the power band more to the midband and increase torque. I've also decided to put one of Alan Jefferys new S206 turbos on the engine for 2010, so it will be interesting to see how that performs when we hit the track on Feb 14th.

Chris at CDF has been a legend and provided the verniers for the new cams and i've got to say the workmanship on these is second to none. Chris also came to the rescue with helping produce some new custom shims quickly for the valvetrain.

We finally picked up the engine last wednesday night and started to built up the full unit on thursday. However i came across a problem when fitting the turbo under my inlet manifold. In rallycross we have to run a 45mm restrictor which comes out infront of the turbo inlet and was crashing into the back of the Inlet manifold. BUT.. with the help of Carl Davey and a saturday delivery, we managed to get some spacers to help lift the manifold and allow the turbo inlet to fit under. I have also got to say that the spacers from carl where also exceptionally good quality.

After we got the engine built up on saturday and had a bacon butty it was time to drop the unit in. It slotted home first time, which makes a change as it usually fights us all the way normally

Sunday morning was taken up with plumbing in the new fuel and oil lines to new engine and mating up the exhaust system to the new s206 turbo. We have a quick fit modular loom on the engine, so that all snapped into place in about 10 mins. First press of the starter button after winding over the engine manually first to build oil pressure, and it fired first time.

So what now? Well we need to refabriate the front bodywork to accomidate the repositioning and altered pipework for the intercooler and then we need to run the engine in fully before it hits the rolling road for a remap.

I'm out racing on the 14th of feb at mallory park, so i'm hoping to get the car on track at somepoint in the coming weeks to shake it down.

I'll keep more upto date with progress and developments in 2010, i promise.

So here is a run down of themain parts of the new engine spec for 2010

2.0ltr CDB
cosworth bottom end
Cosworth baffled sump
STI 4 ported/ flowed heads
Kent Custom profiled cams
CDF vernier pulleys
Alan Jefferys S206 turbocharger
850cc Injectors
Billet fuel rails
Reveresed inlet manifold
70mm Alloy TB
LP intercooler with modified pipework
Newage coil packs

Looking forward to seeing this car on the grid again in 2010, hope you can give some of the front runners some grief so we can see a Scoob on the podium!

Excellent! I've been hoping to see a complete article on the build of the car - Is the magazine still for sale in the shops, or is it a interweb purchase?

Well this is it, time to get 2010 season rolling.

I genuinelly have to say i can't wait to get on that grid, all the testing has gone fantastically and the car is SO much faster than last year, and more drivable. I was testing down at Bill Gwynnes last week and the car was fantastic to drive, so thanks to everyone who has helped me prepair for this year.

The entry for this weekend at lydden is possibly the finest we have seen in years with a massive 21 supercars taking part with some of the best drivers and machinery in europe. (inc a certain tanner foust)

Any scoobynetters making it down there please pop over and say hello to me and the team. There is 2 other scoobys racing so we should be having some good scraps. Anyone who can't make it but wants to watch, tune into motors tv from 12pm on monday for 4 hours of live coverage!

I'll let you know how i get on at the weekend

Si

btw christian, its a newage wrc modified to fit a classic bootlid
