Rallycross supercar build - gc8

Just a quick update, grabbed the dog box from Steve last night (thanks to paul at zen and mark at LP too for your help too) so that will be finding its way onto the car at the weekend. I also picked up my proflex on monday after having work done on them, so that will also be going onto the car on sunday.
The electronics / electrics have now been sorted and the ecu should be sorted in about 2 weeks, which should be perfect timing for when the engine is all fully installed and plumbed in.
So the big question now is can we be ready for the first race debut on may 3rd - 4th?!?!

Well the answer too will we be ready to race at pembrey, is yes!
The Ecu has now been ordered along with all the fuel system and i have just grabbed a set of injectors from mark.
The engine will be getting dropped in this weekend and the gearbox mated up to it next week when the uprated mount arrives for it.
Also the graphics have been ordered today, so it should all be ready to fire up in the next 2 weeks
It's getting very exciting now.

Its been another cold, but productive weekend in the hortonracing garage.
On the electrical side, the new control board was fitted and the loom installed in the car, we even managed to do a few system checks on the fans, lights, dash & eleccy water pump.
On the mechanical side it was a big weekend, with the engine finally being installed. Although not fully plumbed in yet, the engine slotted home nicely and will have the fuel system connected this week.
This week should be a week of kit landing on the doorstep, with the ecu, fuel system, gearbox mount, clutch, injectors, sensors, oil cooler etc landing in the next few days. I can't wait to get it finished (then i can have a rest )

It is indeed. The lateral kit was split up with the rad that bolted on the back of the FMIC being installed in the rear and feed throught the side ducts in the door and roof vents. Also using 850cc injectors and uprated gearbox mount from laterial too.
I've just had the clutch land from the states today (how much is import duty!! ouchio!). Means i can get the gearbox installed now and fit the shafts & prop.

Wow, what a busy few weeks it's been, and this weekend and next week will be no different.
Anyway the clutch, box, diffs, shafts are all in and fitted. The brakes have been finished and bleed up.
The last bits of the fuel lines are also in place now, but i'm still waiting on my oil cooler too arrive. Without this i can't fire up the engine and i'm not going anyway.
Also had a few "technical" issues with the cooling circuit, but this has been resolved. All these small bits take up so much time to sort.
The weekends work is fit the turbo and exhaust and set up all the suspension geometry. Also fit the polycarb windows on sunday and the graphics.
Next week doesn't get any slower with a photo shoot on monday aft with sponsors and final mapping on the rollers next thursday.
Well we are now officially entered for the Pembrey double header, so no turning back now. Just 1 week to go!

Well, here we go, seen for the first time with it's new colour scheme..
A few mechanical odds and sod need to be sorted this week, but i honestly can't wait to get onto the grid now, it's been a long time coming and a LOT of very hard work over the winter.

Gutted!
All the high hopes came to an end yesterday, we had an ecu failure on the simtek ecu, and i can't get a replacement and mapped in time for tomorrow event.
All the team and myself are absolutelly devistated after all the work that has gone into it, for it to fail at the very last hurdle.

Quick update, Steve Simpson has been in touch with me personally to resolve the issue. We not exactly sure where the problem lies within the electronics at the moment but he is coming over personally next week to look at the car, the loom and the ecu to try and help us sort the problem out. Credit too him, he has been very helpful over the last few week and going out of his way to support the project which is a credit too him and his support.
Hopefully we can get the scooby fully fettled and flying for the next event in 4 weeks time.

Just to clarify:
At this point having not had the ECU returned we do not know it has actually failed...There is a suspicion , after talking with the electrician who was doing the wiring loom, that a +12V feed was inadvertently put into the ECU on a Ground pin....We are all dissapointed for Simon not making the event, but I think it is a little premature to lay the blame on the SimTek!

time for an update (in pics)
Well, after a few hectic and frustrating months of work, we finally hit the track on sunday for our first competative outing.
The original suspected ecu fault was acturally due to an error in our wiring loom and not the ecu it's self. Again thanks to Steve Simpson for his help with sorting this out. We then had 2 other issues with a failed turbo oil seal, which turbo dynamics turned around in record time to there credit and we also spun a shell on the engine which destroyed the con-rod and crank. My local engine builder again turned the engine round in a few days to enable us to get out this weekend.
And what a package it turned out to be! The scooby is an absolute animal, so much faster than we expected it to be out the box without any development and it now leaves us in a strong position for the rest of the season. We even managed a heat win on our debut outing which i wouldn't have dreamed of in a million years. We ran in 2 championships (BRDA & ROC) on the day and qualified 4th and 6th on the grid for the A finals, though both finals where ended shortly due to bending a steering arm and taking of the front in the BRDA final and blowing of a turbo hose in the ROC final. However, the day ran so much better than we ever could have wished for and i'm looking forward to the next outing at Lydden hill on August bank holiday.
A few pic's of the days action below.
