I paid £30k, it's done 6k miles, has the important options (leather, pro nav, xenons and auto box) and 3 years warranty. The list on mine was low 40's new.

Ed, good write up. The 135i I drove a few months ago was excellent and although I've got eighteen months to run until I have to replace my current toy I've been giving the 335i some thought as the only issue I have with the 1 Series is the lack of space.
My heart says the M3 but my head says the 335i, particularly with the mileage I do but out of interest did you get the opportunity of driving a manual or not? I'm not ready for a slush box just yet and although the one in the 135i was fine I'm unsure as to whether its the same unit.
I'm surprised by your comments on the ride though. The sooner BMW ditch the RFT experiment the better as far as I'm concerned - the wife's MINI will be much better for it and none of the M series models have them.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'll be swapping the RFT's just as soon as they are anywhere near worn, but I was expecting so much worse after all I've read.
If it goes like that on run-flats, I can't wait to see what it's like on decent rubber!
You can get a manual, Evo has it on their longtermer, but my dealer hasn't sold a single one, and he said manual's will get hit on the residuals. No idea why it's so prevalant / important on this particular car.
I'd rather a manual, but as I say, it's more of a physical reason why I need it, and the box is way way better than, say, the old RS6 auto. They've come on a long way.
There is almost certainly an M3 touring coming....one of those with the new dual clutch smg might just replace the M5 touring at the top of my wish list! The E90 M3 experience is meant to be very very similar to the E39 M5.

I knocked around with Ed as a kid and had borderline RSI after a couple of weekends playing Daytona and Tekken. Mr B carried on for the next 20-odd years; he deserves a slush box!

Isn't the auto box and paddle shift all you can have in the 335?
When we looked at the 535d there was no option for a manual ( or was that because it was diesel)?
Also, the wheels look a tad small in the arches (standard 17's or upgraded 18's)?
Still, looks a cracking car!

In sport mode, the engine doesn't change up unless either a) you do so with the paddle or b) it literally hits the revline, and changes whilst not exactly Scuderia speed proved to be surprisingly quick and smooth on the test yesterday.
I'm confident with a bit of practise it'll prove quite rewarding, but I will report back honestly either way once I've decided

Diesel is auto only, but the 335i comes with 6-speed manual as standard. However, it seems that 90% of owners have been speccing the tiptronic auto. Have to say, the full auto mode did seem to suit the nature of the engine.
There, I said it
*reaches for pipe and slippers*
Edit to add, good q' on the wheels. I thought they were 18's but tbh I am actually hoping they are 17's so I can fit snow chains for the alps trip next month!!!
Tempted to get the wheels redone in shadow chrome like the E39 M5 wheels.

Black grille - definately.
De-badge - not neccessary.
Only the 318's and 320's get de-badged and besides, you've got two exhaust pipes so anyone who knows anything about BMW's knows it's a bit nippy

Black grille. Not sure about de-badging though. I was going to swap my badges for 2.0 litre ones for a bit of a laugh but then it seemed a bit sad to even bother and the stealer made my mind up for me when he wanted to charge me £150.00 for the privilege despite it being a no cost option on new vehicles. I'd leave it as it is.

Nice one Ed.
Get the black grilles and also have Stephen James supply you a set of Blackline rear lights FOC, or at a greatly reduced price. They make the car look massively smarter at the back end.
Oli from e90post is selling his touring on P'heads and has the grill and lights. He may be selling them separately, and the Alpinas etc.....

Got my go in a 135i Coupe today. Shame about the weather so I didn't push it hard but when I got the chance on a straight I did give it some. Very fast and felt taught in the bends. Quicker than my 350z.
Nice quality inside too.
Definately on my list of future cars.

A remap would probably make it that little bit more exciting for those few seconds before you're in license losing territory, at the expense of warranty/insurance/resale hassle which I just can't be bothered with.
I'm probably getting old

Nice car Ed. Next door neighbour has one in the same colour, looks fab, touring looks better than saloon.
A little small for my needs (two small kids) otherwise I'd be tempted as a touring would be helpful. M5 touring would cost me to much to swap (ie deprec on my current M5 saloon and then deprec on the M5 Touring)
Enjoy!

Cheers! Just picked it up and driven it into london to work.
So much more relaxing than the M5!!!
Amazingly good seats too.
Funny enough, I parked next to a 530d touring in the NCP and you really see how much bigger the 5 is!! I'm really glad now I've got the 3 rather than the 5, I think it's going to make a great companion over the adventures I've got planned in the next year!!
