But they obviously care alot about hygeine and food standards so that's better than alot of restaurants etc.

As far as i'm aware it's because their gas masks won't seal around their face if they have stubble.

It's the same for FireFighters, their BA masks won't seal if they have stubble.

Good - Scruffy tvvat should shave before going to work.

TBH - It is unlikely to be an H&S issue but it just gives an outward image of someone who isn't into personal grooming and by association - Hygiene.

Plus - I'd support the fully clean shaven approach - Especially at out Local BK.

I can't believe this is now 5 pages long and you don't seem to have got the point.

I believe that some people would think if you don't shave everyday then that indicates you are unhygienic. Other people wouldn't agree with that.

I seem to be repeating myself here but it's all down to the companies policy that you work for. If they say that you have to be clean shaven then that's upto them and you have the choice whether to work for them and follow their rules.

Has your son returned to work yet since he was sent home ?

5 pages and no one has told me if they know BK's policy, have they? They have, like you, given opinions.

He has worked there for 10 months never been told about being unshaven before, do you understand that?

Yes he is back at work.

Has he had the same manager for 10 months ?

Could that be the answer then ?

Previous managers may not have been bothered by your son being unshaven, however the current manager may not like it.

I imagine the final call over such policy issues is down to the franchisee, BK themselves probably give them certain standards that must be hit, but it possibly won't go into such detail.

The manager will answer to the franchisee, so their take on it should be enough to satisfy you.

Many food outlets have such a policy if it's any consolation to you, many members of the paying public think that somebody with stubble (not a beard, just that "couldn't be aresed to shave" stubble) looks untidy, and they want to be served their food by somebody of a smart apperance, as this will reflect upon the standard of the food preperation areas.

Common practice.

I think you may be flogging a dead horse here. Either nobody on here works or manages a BK, or they are unwilling to comment for some reason.

Maybe if this has been such a problem, your son could politely ask his manager to show him where in the policy it states he must be clean shaven and why. At the end of the day, he now knows he has not been sacked, and you've never said he's had any disciplinary action taken against him, so it's not all bad. He's been sent home and now knows in future he must be clean shaven.

The reason he may not have been pulled up for this before could be different managers following the rules to a different extent as I've said earlier. Could also be, and I don't know how BK operate, but possibly an area manager could have been in earlier (if they have these), noticed your son had stubble and given the manager a ticking off for not following the rules. Maybe that could explain why it was so late in his shift that he was sent home, who knows.

At the end of the day they are likely to have some policy as to appearance due to the nature of the business, whether it is there for hygeine or just about presentation, I don't know.

Does anyone know if it's possible to actually get a freshly flame grilled burger at BK, rather than one which has been grilled several hours before, left to go cold and then microwaved for 30 seconds ? Every single time I go there I hear, 'That's £3.29 sir' [PING]

I bet

Get your son to ask though, as if he didn't know this was their policy, how much other stuff is he unaware of. My work certainly has a habit of only telling us something is policy when a problem arises, instead of making people aware in the first place.

I told the GF about this thread and her response was: "if he can't be bothered to shave, then what else can't he be bothered to do?" If she feels like that, then I'm sure some of BK's customers will. Management want their customers to feel confident about the cleanliness of staff, your son didn't install this confidence in his unshaven state and therefore had the potential to negatively affect the businesses profits. The gaffer was right, I'm right, you know it, so stop arguing the toss.

This is why this thread is going on and on numpties giving opinions, not actually knowing BK's policy. Who gives a **** what your GF thinks

I haven't argued with anyone on this thread, if you read it.

I wanted to know the night I posted, not a week later.

Lets move on You know I'm right

Maybe you should have told your son to ask his manager to show him their policy then instead of posting a thread on here

You seem to have a strange attitude towards people trying to help you

We all know the policy - as do you.

It was made CRYSTAL CLEAR by the Manager.

In words of one Syllable - "GO HOME AND SHAVE YOUR FACE"

No need for a first class honours degree in interpretive language to decipher that one.

I blame it on weak parenting bringing up snivelling oiks who think the world owes them a living. As for phoning the boss up
