Like the twilight zone in here.
I recall discussions galore over the years about "Q" cars, and how the Impreza was a dullish looking car (in particular as a 5 door) that went like **** off a stick...so walking right past it in a car park suits me.
For yonks Subaru have fancied themselves as the Japanese BMW, take a look at how the Legacy has panned out over the years.
I wonder how many of you would still be atop your Model T if you were old enough to have bought Ford's "classic".

I'll be interested to see the pics - can't see them at work as they're blocked, but I drove a non turbo version as a courtesy car when my bugeye WRX was in for a service, and I have to say I didn't think much of it.
The car I had had no discernible shape - it was more like a box with a sloping bonnet (i.e. even worse than the one series (although I like the new M Coupe version they're bringing out ). The interior is using cheaper plastics than ever before, and the rear looked like a cross between a focus and a lexus 4x4. As a bugeye owner I'm used to people saying it's uglier than the blobeye, but I think the new car's in a different league - but I'm reserving judgement until I see the WRC version completed.
I agree with you on the suspension - way too floaty and way too much body roll, although I thought the steering was slightly more communicative to the driver. The trouble is that the amount of body roll inspires less confidence.
The 2.5 litre engine also means that the exhaust note is much more muted than the 2.0 model - although I'm more likley to notice this now I've got a Milltek on mine .
Hope you enjoy it - if I were you I'd start saving for the body mods which Subaru will certainly introduce soon - there are rumours that the management at Subaru have been so worried about the negative reception of the car that they've told their engineers to start re-hashing the design even earlier than they did when they brought out the bugeye!

As a die hard classic fan i was very skeptical about the hatchback when i first heard of it, then i hated it when i saw the press release photo's.
I am even not that big a fan of the blob/hawk if i am honest, but i do like the bug STi.
Now i have seen photos of a real one, not CG efforts, i dont think its that bad, it is just nothing like an Impreza has ever looked like before.
I agree with the comments about moving with the times, we cant stay with the same shape FOREVER, as much as a lot of us would like to, otherwise Subaru would get left behind, go out of business, then where would we all be.
i think with a different set of shoes, lowered, some subtle/tasteful body mods (spoiler/splitter etc) it will look ok.
STi version should look better, cant wait to see that.

One thing i have noticed is that when you see one of the new impreza's you have to look for the subaru badge to see if it really is a impreza and not a mazda or some thing.
With the classics and newage impreza's you just need to glance at it to know what it was.
I know subaru have to keep up with the times, im all for the new shape but they should of cauld it some thing else as its clearly not an impreza.
And of brought some thing else out to replace the current model.
I might change my mind when i have a drive in the new sti but i think i had the money in the future for a new impreza, the newest i would be able to get would be a hawkeye.
