WRC challenge - mini league/forum?
I was talking about the gears this morning and wondered auto over manual. I am using auto at the mo, and after watching the WRC preview on channel 4 where they mentioned for hairpins dropping it down to your exit gear before using the handbrake.....hard to do in auto mode.
Gonna have to set up my steering wheel now, cos I'm crap at manual gears on a controller!

Ooops, the times posted were for the qualifying challenge, not the first round of the challenge itself
Even still, best time overall is still sitting at around 6:02
Andrew.

They have now disabled the viewing of stage times on the website.
So you won't be able to tell how badly you've done until after the weekend is over
Apparently you can still register and record your times, but I'll be buggered if I have been able to get that far

Have managed to get down from 6:30
to 6:17 using auto rather than manual gearbox. Go figure
Interesting thread over here

These guys have been practising 20 hours a day since the game came out, and the guy who was winning overall the one time I saw the table (evoIVgsr) has a mate who actually calls the pace notes for him, rather than using the computerised co driver
Don't think we stand a chance somehow.
Late update on the leader board

Went and bought the Logitech steering wheel.
Times started improving dramatically. :=)
Now down to 6:17 from 6:22 before steering wheel.
I seem to be the only one from ScoobyNet World Rally Team
to enter their times on the web site. Where are all the others ?
By the way, anyone else with the Logitech: Does your
handbrake work ? Mine doesn't...

Can't enter my time cause I cannot get onto the site
Also, the scoobynet team didn't exist when I registered and the stupid site won't let you change teams
Not that it matters, my best time is still 6:15
The handbrake washes lots of speed, but doesn't seem to help getting the end out ooh err

Hi Guys,
Sorry I have not replied sooner but my computer has been off-line.
Not impressed with the Challenge site.
a) very slow
b) the team name business appears not to be working
c) no one from the site has bothered to reply to email regarding the problems.
Anyway looks like we are all as bad as each other.
After about a dozen attempts I am now down to 6:10.36
I have now managed to break the 3min barrier on stage 3 (only just)
Stage 2: 1:17.00 - can't see how you can do this any quicker.
It would be interesting to see whether the difference is due to manual/auto gear selection - decided to stick with manual for now.

They seem to have looked behind the lounge and found some spare bandwidth.
The site is now flying
but it would not accept either of my two fastest time codes as valid
Not that it matters, as they are only for a 6:16:86
Have now got down to 6:15:80 using logitech wheel and auto gears.
Best time now stands at 5:57:56 and best for the UK is 5:58:12

Yep, the site is dire.
I to thought I was doing OK, coming up with 6:23 / 6:18 ish.
I nearly keeled over when I saw 6:00!
Where the hell they are getting that from I dont know!
20 seconds to find? Not a hope!

6:09.50.
That means 17th position in Netherlands.
Very happy. Could probably shave one or two more seconds off
if managed to get a totally perfect run. I always tend to mess
up at least one corner somewhere...
The web site is weird. One moment it works and 10 seconds later
not. I just keep trying every few minuets.

I've done a bit of digging, and found how the guys are getting sub 6 minute times.
By cheating
1. Drive at any of the tight corners that have a barrier and turn in sharply at the last moment. The car will rebound off in the right direction and you will only loose a little speed. The crappy damage model will only hurt you if you hit it virtually head on.
2. There are a couple of hairpins on the 3rd stage that can be missed completely by jumping over them. Gotta go home and try it but apparently there are nice ramps to use and each one accounts for approx 5 seconds
So much for a fair competition.
Someone has queried the runners of the comp through the email address that sent out the activation code and the response was effectively 'yep, go for it, sounds ok to us, we don't really care how you get your final time'

To find out, just send me 100 quid in unmarked notes to ...
only joking
This is the info I found. Just about to try it out
There are two jump points in stage three to cut off two hairpins, going down hill, one in front on the apex with a triangle road sign. The one which saves the most time and is easyer to hit the road on the other side is after that one. crash barrier on the left and it stops then there is a big gap befor the hill or big rock, just take a left of the edge and land on the road below. aves 5secs on the split. And one very cool roll in mid air, just like James bond over the river or burt renolds in hooper.
Andrew.

Are you able to change anything in the WRC Challenge mode? I've assumed it's just frozen in a certain format to make it fairer, (though there seem to be some driving cheats which work....
