Should I buy a PS3 or a 360?
I've just ordered all the toys for my den (HD projector, flat panel speakers and a/v amp) so I now need an HD source!
So, for the first time I'm properly weighing up Xbox360 vs. PS3 and I have to admit, I'm swaying back towards....PS3 - and for all the WRONG reasons - AESTHETICS!!!
- Its quiet
- It offers HD games AND HD movies all in one neat package, that will connect into HDMI #1 of my A/V amp!
- The hacker in me loves the ability to run Linux on PS3
But then I, I'd really like Mass Effect and Halo 3, so its not a done deal yet!

I was tempted by that, but it has very limited access to the hardware in the machine, so limits what can be done with it.
If you're spending that much money, why not get both?

Its too damn noisy even when not doing much at all - paused my COD4 game last night to watch Spooks - ended up pausing that to go back to the 360 to switch it off...
on a lighter note - Halo 3 DLC due Dec 11th, and I've just read Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 out Q1 2008
oh yes...

PS if you mean the fans, then get an Elite
I thought that too Iain although it is slowly changing. I'm gonna put MameX on it and obviously not much point if you cant play games using the six-axis but the ubuntu distro for ps3 (imaginatively titled psubuntu) has six-axis support now so once its all on and I work out how to map it all then great!
I don't need to - I have a PS3, I couldn;t watch a DVD with the 360, far, far too noisy - If yo uthink it;s silent, you need to listen (or not listen as is the case
) to a PS3 - now *thats* silent. And I'll be buggered if I am going to trade in my premuim and pay extra to get exactly the same machine back only with an overpriced larger HDD.
I've said this before and i'll say it again, the 360 both dvd and HD are silent when playing movies, if yours isnt take it back as its ****ed, yes games are nosiey because the programmers leave the disc constantly spinning at max speed.

PS3 Blu-Ray disc spinning @ 1x = 36Mb/s (approx)
XBox360 DVD disc spinning @ 1x = 11Mb/s (approx)
so if a game developer sets his streaming rate at 36Mb/s, then Xbox360 is running at 3x to keep up
Is the Xbox360 Elite's internal cooling quieter than previous models ?

If money is no object then PC wins graphically and playability wise for FPS and RTS games but it is costly to keep upgrading as bigger and better games come out.
Really depends on the games you play. I only really play FPS online and there is no comparison IMHO. If you play sports, fighting, driving games then consoles excel here.
