And how do you organise your external drives - are the just a dumping space? I'm supposing that you keep some kind of filing system? Folder called Photo's for example? Or is that just too simplistic?

Any advice?

jeez even now hell be filling it up with copies of threads hes started on here so he can regurgitate them at a later date

Pete not being disrespectful to the others that have offered advice but I am very aware of this type of problem with external drives and internal software issuses.
Bottom line line is you NEED TO RECONFIGURE THE WARP DRIVE !!!!!

I saw that option ...... but, there must be some drawback to it or it would do that by default, surely?

I've got a MAC and you are quite right, on a wet night like tonight it is the only way you can be sure of staying dry

Well, it took 1 hour to back-up 17GB ..... that's impressive!

When I go to 'explore' whats on the drive it just fires up the Back-Up wizard and asks me if I want to restore the files ...... thats all very nice if I have a crash, but I quite fancied having a look to see what was there and whether it was what I wanted.

I also wanted to take that back-up file and copy it on some CDs (but I've just realised, that would eat up 26 discs!? )

Pete - you have created an entire backup (17gig thing). If you want to save stuff to CD you just need to pick individual files or folders

Quick format doesn't check for bad sectors whilst formatting

Since you are using XP-the best MS system so far, I would be inclined to reformat it to NFTS. Do the quick format unless you feel like waiting ages for it fo finish.
