sorry but i cant remember the name of the company (power station??) were given a standard sti, then after some big engine mods and few other tweeks the T45 was unvieled. and we all know what thats capable of?

it really is a problem here that cars are not compaired like-for-like even top gear are guilty of this from time to time as they compare the 911 turbo to an evo or scoob, WTF the 911 is an out and out sports car the scoob/evo are 4 door saloons!?

Yep! But maybe I'm being a little picky but sti5's ALL seem to go pop...lots of debate as to why but they do. Your P1 bottom end may well be doing OK but its been mated to an sti3 which makes it fundamentally a different beast

imo it would have to be an sti6; uprated fuel pump, decat, panel filter and remap should see 320\300.

Add a 20g TD05, MY04 onwards sti ic, 550's, remap and possibly a new clutch and it should be knocking on the door of 400.

I don't think there is a single mechanical difference between the STi 5 and the STi 6 aside from the clutch start system.

I honestly don't know...I thought the suspension struts were different and I know there are a few changes to the interior (seats?), as well as different wheels and the sti6 splitter.

Maybe because there are less sti6's their engine failures are less well reported

The seats are the same (both have the red material going over the top of the seat from shoulder to shoulder). I think the Momo emblem on the stearing wheel is ever so slightly different. Wasn't aware of the suspension struts - will look in to that

I thought the sti6 seats were slightly deeper with a little more support...although I am basing that on comparing a v5 with v6 UK cars

Very amusing post from the thread starter :

'I have a completely non standard car that I have had upgraded to 400bhp by spending loads of money on it, and I beat an Impreza, that was probably around 130bhp down on me and heavier than mine, therefore ALL escort cossies are faster than ALL Imprezas'

I like Cossies in a nostalgic way, but your starting the thread seems a little pointless unless you are willing to put your car up against someone who has spent the same amount of money upgrading their car, and see who wins. The models of the two cars are pretty irrelevent once the engine is taken that far away from standard.

i guess there are far less sti6 over here than sti5\P1's, so their failure is not as well covered. Any idea how similar they are to sti5 bottom ends...just curious

Anyone remember that clarkson video where they put an escort cossie against an impreza? Both standard. Clarkson drove the escort and VBH drove the scooby.. I think the escort won cos VBH went a bit sideways!

Probably on you tube

It was Clarkson`s AT FULL THROTTLE vid. They raced 12 cossies down a runway and the winner (MA Development car) was matched against an STi5 type R. Clarkson reliving his youth in the far from standard cossa and VBH in the STi.

in response 2 the top gear race they finished in a dead head and vbl lost it on the last corner.

but have a luk at the specs of the cossie

Hello everyone. I'm a newbie. This is me Escos.
It's a 1996 on a P in Auralis blue.
I bought it as a standard small turbo model but it is now

Stage 3 T34 Hybrid
Grp A head
Grp A cone filter
Mongoose exhaust
Grey injectors
RS 500 intercooler
Air injectors
L8 ECU closed loop, lambda
MD evolution chip
GGR silicone hoses
Grp A breather system
standard compression
32 psi boost

Gaz coilovers
362mm AP disks
6 pot calipers
18in oz super t's

It's running about 400 bhp.
all that and only about 400 horses!!! jesus.....

scooby sti would b pushing far more with the same money thrown at it
since cossies r fords best (not really as ford didnt build them) then it can only b compared to a STI

Both standard? I think not. The Escort was (and still is) over 500bhp.
Was originally owned my Mark Shead from MA Developments, and is now owned by a friend of mine.

Stunning car BTW

Does anyone else not think the the Clarkson/VBH race was not staged somewhat?

C'mon a 500bhp cossie vs a 300bhp STI 5 Type R.

That cossie would of raped the **** off that impreza.

Funny how they managed a "Dead heat"

Nice Cossie.

Well you have to remeber all the Subarus are different. you may have raced a standard Imported version one or two waggon with a tiny little td04 Turbo barley pushing 200hp. then you have the Spec C and all the other versions.

Who cares if you beat a Impreza Big wow.

Nice car you have any ways
