Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Official Release Date
Ah the new trojan for OS X. I've seen it mentioned. Something to do with a file you download when going looking for nude Britney Spears pictures. As with other so-called trojans, it still requires you to manually enter the local admin name and password, at which point it can run as root and so whatever it likes, so it's not a true automatic infection.
If you download things from untrusted sources then expect to get burnt.

Saw this today?
Good news for Markus? It's a start at least!

Laggard Apple lets Leopard virtualize | Reg Hardware
I saw that on slashdot. It does make some sense allowing the server to be virtualized. My guess is there will be some check to see if it's running on Apple hardware, which is fine by me.
I'm guessing if we ever see a virtual client it'd only ever be 10.4 or 10.5 (or later), as they'd probably tie it to an OS that can run on Intel hardware, and pre 10.4.x that isn't possible.

Any more Leopard experiences to share. I have just ordered it from Macwarehouse :-)
Had a bit of a scare last week when the 10.4.11 update loaded up and then my machine would not restart. The little start up clocking thing sat there rotating for hours. In the end I bit the bullet and powered down.
It then restarted fine. Is this a sign of things to come.
I really want to do an upgrade in place as I don't really want to reinstall everything, especially Parallels 3.0 (which is really excellent - especially the latest updates which really sort out the USB issues I was having) and XP.
Look forward to some good stories!

Hello David
Make sure you're fully backed up before doing the upgrade in place, just in case. I held back installing 10.5 for about, ooh, 12 hours (the time it took for me to find and download 10.5 client and server from the ADC site)
I had read some of the comments on macintouch and macfixit about people having issues with the install, most of these related to having Unsanity's APE (application enhancer app) software installed. Removing this prior to install of 10.5 (if it was installed on your machine, it was not on mine) seemed to result in there being few if any issues upgrading.
The procedure I used to upgrade was to unplug all external devices except for the USB keyboard and mouse and the firewire drive that had the partition containing the 10.5 installer on (the ADC download was a dmg file that I restored via Disk Utility to the partition on the firewire drive, as I did not have any DL DVD-R's to hand).
I then booted from the install media and selected the language and as soon as I could, I popped into the Utilities menu and ran Disk Utility. I used it to repair permissions and repair the disk on my normal boot partition. It did take a fair while to do both of these, but it resulted in a disk that 10.5 would like.
I then quit DU and ran the installer, using the default Upgrade option and it went off without a hitch.
After the reboot the machine did sit around on a blue screen for about 5 - 10 mins, but after that it booted up quite happily. I installed my devices that I'd unplugged and rebooted, logged in, and all was fine.
What you may want to do before upgrading is to check that all third party apps you have will work with 10.5. Some that I have, for example, pureftp manager and SharePoints do not work under 10.5. This isn't overly critical as I don't use those apps too much, but you may find an app you use on a regular basis might not work, and it's better to know beforehand.
As 10.5.1 is out, before you upgrade anything else, I'd get 10.5.1 and any other Apple updates on the machine.
All in all the upgrade has been a smooth process and I'm just waiting for a few things to be updated for leopard compatibility. Some things might take time to upgrade as there are some pretty significant under the hood changes to the OS.

I have installed a few things.
Essentials are NeoOffice, Handbrake, Toast, Parallels and Thunderbird. That's about it. I have a few things installed under XP and I assume Parallels will take care of them.
Disc arrives on Tuesday hopefully

Pop over here and see if you have any of the products mentioned. If you do, I'd suggest uninstalling them, upgrading to 10.5 and then reinstalling them, providing there is a 10.5 compatible version.
Another way to tell is to go into /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/ and see if you have an item named ApplicationEnhancer.bundle
If you do, then delete this file, and then install 10.5

I did my work machine last week. Parallels went back on fine, even my same VM that I copied off my Tiger machine worked fine, getting some error messages sometimes when I start it mind you.
Biggest thing for me is my Mac won't bind into AD, even though it says it's bound....it....er hasn't
My Mac was a fresh install, did an upgrade on another machine as a test and all went fine

Installed Leopard today. Simply inserted the DVD and pressed the buttons as requested until it finished.
All up and running in about an hour.
Two things that don't seem to work are: -
In Parallels XP does not seem to be able to 'see' the internet connection available to the Mac
Google Earth does not work
Everything else seems to work fine :-)

Ok - Parallels has all gone a bit Pete Tong
I am on the latest build 5160 which is advised for Leopard.
What does not work
It does not mount a [C] drive. I get an error message saying timed out waiting for the file system to initialise.
I also cannot create any sort of connectivity between the two machines and so my XP cannot access the web.
XP under Parallels on Leopard is much slower.
I can open files from the Mac such as PPT and DOC files simply by selecting Open with and it opens the Parallels VM and starts up XP fine so there is some connectivity.
Anyone got around these issues?

I have never set up Boot Camp so I am guessing hard disk file. I installed Parallels, stuck in my XP disk and off it went. Works very well.
The speed thing seems to be sorted now - running subjectively as fast as before. The connection between XP and the Mac is still flaky.
I have also had other sporadic issues such as no response to the Macbook touch pad mouse button (mouse moves but does not click) but the Apple Bluetooth mouse works fine.
Also had a very flaky moment when the screen started flashing on and off during a back up but that has gone away too.
Seems pretty good - lots of features I really like such as my WINTEL server listed without having to go and connect. Some really nice graphical stuff too.

Ok, if you're not using Boot Camp then it's just using a file on disk. I'm not sure if I've actually fired up Parallels since I upgraded to 10.5. I know I've run VMWare Fusion and it seems to work quite happily. I might give it a shot in a short while (just backing up and installing a new drive in my xbox) and see if I get any problems with the setup I have.
Markus,
if you go to the Parallels support site it states that only build 5160 will run on Leopard and even then there are known issues that they are working on. They do not state what those issues are though!
Let me know how you get on.
