bloody bunch of uphill gardners

I had to sit through that appalling crap, as britains biggest drama queen, "B" celebrity, has-been useless waste of space Bwian put on a pathetic act, just because JD dared to call him a shirt lifter. who gives a toss, I would have called him a lot worse, its all he deserves the prat.

You can't trust anyone who weights anchor in the bay of poo.

And you can't call them Shirtlifters either

Bwian managed to win BB by being a drama queen, so he is just playing the game he knows best. Must say though - he annoys the **** off me. JD is funny in the same way that you laugh at someone who walks into a lamppost. You know its wrong, but you have a snigger anyway.

JD = traditional british humour. Much the same way as 'Till death do us part' is still very funny but society nowadays frowns on this type of humour - and humour is all it is.

Can anyone imagine Brian Dowling in the armed forces serving in Iraq - some folk need a reality check
I've nowt against gays, but I've no time for the whinging type - this is exactly the sort of behaviour that created Dafyd in Little Britain.

Well it is obviously offensive to some people.

You can't argue that it isn't. I mean if sufficient numbers say they find the term offensive, then it is, by default, offensive.

I wonder, though, what the reaction would be if Brian then called someone a "fat git" or an "old codger". Should he also be kicked off the show?

Where do you draw the line?

Is there historical context behind the word or are people being overly sensitive and PC yet again?

So if a dozen people mail the webby to say that they find the word Pete offensive should you be forced to change your username or should they be told to wise up?

PC is so overused - if your boss introduced you to a new work mate who you had heard was gay would you say "hi, are you a shirtlifter"? and if you did and your boss had issues would you say he was being "pc"????

Seems PC is used as an easy defence to being insulting.

I just dont see whats so bad about the word shirt lifter. Does it really even mean anything? Surely its not something someone should get upset about!

Well that's obviously a somewhat different example. But I take your point (I am sure that plenty of people on here find me offensive )

It all depends on the connetations of the word. Is "Shirt Lifter" by itself a derogatory term? I would say it probably is.

However, is it as bad as calling someone a ******? In my view. No, but to someone else? Perhaps yes.

It's a very difficult line to tread. In this day an age, discriminating on sexuality is an unacceptable as racism, and rightly so.

I think in Jim's case however, it is more a generational thing. He is how he is. He is the product of an era where taking the **** out of Gay people was acceptable. Indeed taking the **** out of Black people was acceptable. Did he mean anything by the comment? Probably not. To him, saying "shirtlifter" was the same as saying "gay"

Now, Mr Davidson has managed not to be an overt racist for some years now, but he obviously struggles with not being homophobic - Which he clearly is.

Notwithstanding any of the above, as I have already said, Brian milked it for all it was worth. And I don't think he has come out of this looking any better than Jim Davidson.

At the end of the day, Jim Davidson has done mountains of work for charity, supported British troops in all manner of situations and eanred my respect, even if I do think he is completely wrong to be the way he is. Brian on the other hand has done **** all. I know which one I'll back if push comes to shove.

I didnt think he said "all you shirtlifters", he just said "Why do shirtlifters"...
Anyhoo, it was political correctness gone mad and I felt so sorry for Jim. Then again though, it's exactly why ITV put the campest batty boy in there with old school comedy legend Jim Davidson I guess...
If a gay man called me a 'fanny poking boob fondling overlord', I would be fine with it, chuffed in fact! Just as they should be if I call them a 'chocolate star fish chasing shirt lifter'
Jim is correct when he points out the fact that yet again, equal rights and freedom of speech only apply if your a liberal namby pamby minority and not a white adult male
I shall buy Jim next dvd as a matter of course and hope he recounts his experiences with the Dowling and his little fan club

would you call a gay man a shirtlifter to his face? do you call asian people paki and blacks *******?

JD does not know how to conduct himself around anyone other than someone like him......you should feel sorry for him, he (and his type) are about to become extinct - no great loss.

The Gay people I know are generally pretty reasonable normal people, comfortable with talking about what it means to be gay, most can cope with a bit of ribbing if its good natured, look at the way a lot of celebrity gay people make self depracating jokes about their sexuality same as most of us who have the capability to laugh at people.

Conversely, I think Gay men do tend to sometimes be somewhat highly strung, especially young ones, my brother got sacked from his job at the Cooperative bank due to alledged comments a young gay guy heard from another table in the staff canteen, no right of reply, no nothing, just binned because a very neurotic gay guy with issues thought he heard something being said.

Personally I think it was two extremes of the spectrum - Jim obviously had issues with Gay people, and Brian is the worlds biggest drama queen.
You may not call Brian a queen. Please leave ScoobyNet!

What would have happened if instead of the word "shirtlifter", Jim had used the word "homosexual", whats the betting Brian would have still kicked off??

Brian can be quite nieve really given that JD has been around for some time, and his material isnt exactly "U" rated..

its a sad state of affairs, where a tv chef can embarrass punters in his resteranut who complain, but a bit of name calling and its WW3.

its getting out of hand now, where becoming the biggest bunch of PC idiots, and loosing all sense of logic and reason

There used to be a ferry ship near where i used to live.....It was for years called the Gay enterprise... then it was called the Solent enterprise, so as not to offend
its a ship FFS

from wiki:

In December 2006, Davidson was embarrassed by a 15-year-old boy who heckled him during a performance of his pantomime Dick Whittington in Kent. Reportedly, Davidson came on stage at the Orchard Theatre in Dartford, delivering the scripted line, "Do you know who I am?” The boy, a Scout in full uniform, loudly replied, "Yes, you’re a ****ing ******." According to The Sun, Davidson was enraged and spent the remainder of the first half of the show in a sullen mood. He reportedly tried unsuccessfully to find the boy's scoutmaster during the interval to personally address his heckler.[
