I think most of SN is rather Pro 360.

PS3 is a great piece of kit, pity its currently let down by a limited games catalogue, but it shouldn't be considered as a purely gaming oriented system.

Why? I only want it for games. The only other thing it can do is play movies, or am I missing something?

To me, they're all purely gaming machines. I have the pc for internet etc and a dvd player for films.

Bought mine for the blu-ray mainly - and its very very good - Casino Royale in 1080p is fantastic, and then there's the uncompressed soundtrack which is also impressive and makes a bigger difference than I thought it would.

Web browser built in, also takes printers so can only be a matter of time before a Word Processor appears.

...and it can cure cancer

Of course the extra power all those console use running that screen saver thing, will cause us all to drown due to global warming instead...

Not interested in the blu-ray playback. Going to get a better quality standalone player for that

I did consider a standalone player myself but at the pricepoint is there is nothing better at the moment, and probably unlikely to be for quite a while, plus the internet connection means updates are regular.

There is one big niggle I have with the movie functions of the PS3 - you can't have audio output through the HDMI and the Optical cable at the same time - I'm sure this will be addressed with an update but its pretty annoying for now.

Sony's own BR player looks brilliant and I'm sure its a great disc spinner and Pioneer currently have a belter of a machine available.

In what was in PS3 BluRay playback lacking? Just out of interest, like.

Seen in numerous reviews that the picture quality isn't quite as good, especially where sharpness and colour reproduction is concerned. Obviously it's still very good, but I like to have the best I can get

Plus I don't want to wear out my dvd player by playing games in it

BR playback was a little "basic" at first but firmware updates have corrected all these issues. The last 1.9 firmware update added the ability to display at 24 frames per sec as per the original film.

Can't fault it the video playback personally, only gripe is the one I posted earlier about the audio ouput, other than that I'd say that the dedicated BR remote is an essential buy if you intend to use the PS3 to play a lot of BR's, using the controller is a bit of a pain.

If you have anything console related in your username, profile etc, or dare to mention that you like a console/game, you are instantly labeled as a fanboy on here

I agree with the GT 5 and GT mobile will help the sales of both systems. Also with Activision buying Bizzare Creations we might see PGR 4 or 5 on PS3, which also be good especially if it can give the GT series a bit of a scare. You know what they say about competition.

Has anyone seen the really cool PS3 to PSP streaming, the guys doing the F1 game were using a psp as a fulltime rearview mirror, while you were playing on the main screen. Now if this technology makes it into other games GT series for the same thing, other genres could benefit. By using the psp to display other menu`s and other information, leaving the main screen just for the game. I think the use of the PS3 PSP link could have some great possibilties and open up gameplay to a whole new concept. A bit like the Wii and it`s controller which is a work of art as a concept and the world agrees, hence why it is outselling everything else. The Xbox 360 hasn`t really bought any new concepts to the next gen war. It is just a more powerful version of the previous generation.

I don`t think the war will be won in this round, we could be looking at the next round, who will win. Nintendo will now have the money to produce a piece of hardware, that is very powerful, and fun off the success of the Wii. Sony could fight back with an awesome completely new radical concept, or go back to basics, Remember if the sales of PS3 don`t pick up a lot they have nothing to lose in the next round. M$ will most probably play it really safe and produce a more pwerful version of xbox 360 most probably call it 720 and rely on the american market to make it a success.

Blabber over

Jase
