Not very edifying is it?

Not half!
There is a certain irony in someone complaining about this thread and launching straight into swearing and slagging off - makes you wonder.

Next up is the old and worn out "if we say anything then we get infracted" line which is looking a bit tired now and was not ever a good excuse, infractions are easy to trace and see if it is being abused/misused so have no fear.

You spend a day or two away from SN and miss all the fun!

Iraq is a disaster, it always was going to be and there's going to be even worse to come when we eventually get round to bringing our boys and girls back home.

They can't be airlifted out as we have too much heavy equipment there so when finally they withdraw to the ports to be shipped out, every Tom, Dick and Harry with a gun will know where they are going, when they are going and most likely, what route they are taking. It's going to get a lot worse before the end. Thank you so much for your bloodstained legacy Tony

It is true that our forces are having a hard time out there in Bhasra. They have become continual targets for the insurgents even while they are in their barracks.

If nothing else it demonstrates the massive and incredibly stupid error in starting the war in the first place.

Totally agree Les, but in the meantime we're doing the right thing. Training the local security forces so that we can get the **** out of Dodge!

Yes as long as it works, but I have my doubts unfortunately.

I think that once the Iraqi army are trained their firing pins should be removed and only posted back to them once we're all safey out of the country, as I fear they will be the first lot of nutters to open fire on us once them get a wiff of our withdrawal

Trouble is they won't come back - they'll be moved over to Afghanistan and will be stuck there for the next 20 years. dl

And pulling out of Afghanistan will be even worse. We tried that in 1842 with an army of over 16,500 soldiers and civilians, there was one survivor.

I'm not suggesting that wars are fought the same way nowadays but Afghanistan has always been an anvil upon which armies have been broken.

Now you are talking. Don't forget of course that Billy Boy is there to keep the peace!
