OK everyone, let's stop all the silly stuff, treat the enquiry as genuine and see how to get £2,500 [inc VAT?] back for what appears to be a rip-off.

What follows is taken from MACC's website and has a written guarantee that will stand up in any court

"Based in the Midlands, near Birmingham city centre, Midland Auto Care
Centre (MACC) aims to provide unmatched automotive services to our
customers all under one roof, guaranteeing "customer satisfaction" in
every aspect."

1. Our man is not satisfied in any respect let alone "every" respect.

2. He has photographic evidence to support his claim.

3. The claim is under the maximum limit for the small claims court.

4. He should tell his solicitor to stop messing about and file under the small claims procedure.

5. You can file online but it is better to use your local court.

6. Make sure the claim includes all the solicitors costs including disbursements for any company searches and VAT.

Philr will have to go to court himself armed with all his documents. When in court:

1. He has a shave and a haircut and wears smart casual or a suit.

2. He keeps his cool, never loses his temper no matter how provoked, uses no bad language, refrains from calling anybody a cheating w*nk*r!

3. With a bit of luck he will get a judgement.

4. If MACC does not pay up, the court will help deal with the default.

And finally, for God's sake, get proper advice next time a on where to go to get your old banger fixed and b] use the legal indemnity policy attached to you house or car insurance AND go to the Citizens Advice Bureau for free to get proper legal advice.
