Few small mini updates..

First, rear suspension adjustability..

Ok, the dampers I have fitted to the car have adjustable, erm, damping, and as such the adjustment is made via the centre of the damper body, down the insert.

This is fine for the fronts which are easily accessable, but not the rears, which are covered by the seat, and I don't want to spend time setting the car up with either no rear seats, or having to remove them whenever I feel a change needs to be made.

So I came up with a plan to make some longerer adjusting rods, like so..

Here is the rear damper position with the adjuster in position..

Next, get me some solid bar, drill down the centre with appropriate size drill, with no lathe...

Next, this rod now makes a nice interference fit onto the original hex bar..

And in the position I want them to be..

Hopefully these should just poke out between the rear seat and the parcel shelf.

Next quick update, ICE..

Now I'm not a Bass-head or anything like that, but I wanted a nice sounding sound system in my car..

First off, but not many pics to be honest, was the rear shelf.

Had some JBL 6x9's left over from another car, so got them fitted in, along with some sound deadening, and covered stealth like..

Next, front doors.

Again got some JBL 13cm component speakers, and fitted them along with a bit of woodworking MDF...

Dynamat fitted..

Speaker..

Crossover thingy..

All fitted..

Again, once the door card is fitted, all factory looking like..

Also got all the leads installed for both amps, front amp installed under pasenger seat already.

Rear amp will be installed as and when I get one, along with the head unit...

Got some more done on the interior..

Managed to get all the wiring in place for the Defi's, and preceded to make a home for the guages and the controller..

I'll let the pics do the talking..

As you can see, the controller is able to be swung out at an angle towards the driver if wanted too, but really it was a solution to being able to screw the vents/defi housing back in place and hide the fixing.

Also, the hazard switch has been modified into a normal switch housing, and re-positioned with the other switches near the ignition key..

I've also given the centre console a bit of a waft of black to match the rest of the interior..

Few more jobs done also...

Uprated fuel pump now fitted.

Brake servo cleaned/painted, and master cylinder along with cluch hydraulic system now fitted.

Engine bay is looking like this..

All the wiring for the Defi's now residing in here for now..

Hopefully I can keep the messy wires down to a minimum.
Also in that mess is the re-routed wiring for the Maf, which will no longer be in it's usual position..

Seats arrived yesterday..

Rear bench sent away to be re-covered in original Recaro gear..

Still on the interior theme, as mentioned the interior is all now based on 2005 model year gear.
This includes the door cards, which in itself is no major problem.
However, the 05 has the electric mirror controls in the drivers door, whereas mine doesn't, so I had to modify the switch panel, like so...

Quick re-cap on the brake situation..

The brakes are K-sport, which are 356 mm front & rear, with 8 pots calipers on the front, 6 pot on the rear, and started out looking like this..

Well, I then stripped the calipers, had the logo machined off the face, and had them re-anodised to match my also re-anodised bells..

I had planned on getting the 'ECLIPSE' logo machined back in to them, but fears about thickness of material has put me off, so some decals are being produced as we speak.

I am feeling better already after my "fix"!

Looking very good indeedy, how long do you think it will take till your cosmic starship is completed? a few more weeks or couple of months?

Whatever it takes I do not doubt for one moment that it will be well worth the wait - no one can deny you have put the time and effort in to create something very special.

I can imagine how satisfying it must be once you have completed each step to know that you are getting closer to your end goal, conversley it must also be frustrating to know that whilst your 80%+ of the way their you still have a lot of fiddly / frustrating things to do.......... including the engine (probably classes as a bit more than fiddly).

Either way a real credit to you and I know I enjoy seeing what is happening with your project whenever you post an update.

Fingers crossed it is on the road soon putting a childlike grin on your face!!

Regards

GB

Not possible unfortunately due to the size/offset/stud pattern.

Gllad you enjoyed your 'fix'

Frustrating it is...

I was hoping to be done for June 1st, but looking highly unlikely now.

One things for sure though, I am looking forward to that childlike grin, along with the many child like tantrums when teething problems rear their ugly head..

I've just eaten a chip I dropped on the floor and then realised your engine bay is so much cleaner than my floor!! Can I come round and eat the rest from your engine bay??

Awesome standard mate! How did you fabricate the surround for the gauges, it looks tremendous. No fresh air but looks ace.

How will you drive this thing on the road after getting it this good?

Keep it coming.

No can do I'm afraid Andy, don't want any greasy-ness in my engine bay..

I'm not a fan of stick on pods, so no fresh air vents for me...just have to open the window.

Ideally I wanted the car on the road for summer (whenever that is..) to at least keep it a bit clean for some of the shows, but looking more like Autumn they way things are shaping up..

Cheers for the comments all..

Ok, next little piece of the jigsaw..Seats...

Not being a fan of standard Subaru seats, I had decided early on in the project to go down the aftermarket route.

With this decision, I also wanted to make sure that the front/rear seats would match.

So I had to consider 2 options...

1: the rear seats could be trimmed to match the new front seats,
2: the whole set of seats would have to be trimmed.

I also had a budget to work to...

So, I had to buy some front seats, which were above all else comfortable, yet supportive, and relatively cost effective.

After much deliberation, I came up with basically 2 choices..

Recaro Speed, Sparco Milano/Torino.

The Sparco Milano in Alcantara looked the best to me, which then would mean trying to match the Alcantara for the rear seat.

The Torino is basically the Milano but in cheaper trim, so buying a pair of these, and then retrimming front/rear seats in the same material (alcantara preferred) was also an option.

Recaro speed the similar stuation.

So, off I went to sit my Ar$e in some seats, and to see them in the flesh..

After sitting in both,I bought a pair of Recaro's.

I thought the Recaro's were the best for both comfort and support, and also the triming looked better quality, and were cheaper as well.

Another bonus, is that after contacting the importers of Recaro's in this country, I could get the exact material to have the rear seat trimmed.

Et Viola...

The rear seats as already mentioned are away to be trimmed, BUT get this...

The cost of having the rears seats trimmed to match the fronts,(labour, material) is almost as much as the cost of both front seats...

Anyway, also got a steering wheel fitted, which was yet another few hours of creative engineering due to the horn and indicator self cancelling mechanism.

Basically the boss I got, didn't mate up with the mechanism for both, so I had to fabricate both in order to work like they should.

Enough drivel, pics..

With seats in and steering wheel, at least I can sit in and pretend to drive the damn thing..

Feels nice TBH, not to low, but far better than standard, and the seats/wheel materials are matching and seem to tie in with the interior

Seats look really good. 1 thing the flocked dash looks a bit manky/dusty in appearance, will this simply buff up once cleaned, or are you going to go over it with a spray or something to enhance it a bit?

i never realised that so many aftermarket boss kits apparently don't self cancel the indicators and such on a scooby

had some fun with my mate trying to find out who made my classic boss (it came from japan with a boss and nardi wheel, all self cancels fine

my mate was telling me he asked about a few different boss kits but they either dont allow the horn to work (needs a switch on the dash) or dont self cancel the stalks

all i know is my car came from jap land with a boss, that works 100%

Yeah it is a bit dusty to be honest, but will clean up once finished...

Although, as Micky has aid, they don't photograph very well..

Correct, Mitsi used them as OEM seats for the EVO 4, but with different trim pattern.
