Well said Andy, there were plenty of people using the Max Power driving manuel on the RAC and there were even 2 Scoobys that were driven in less than a safe way, I still have my mad moments but generally it's on a quite country roads with only me in the car. What's slowed me down is being a passenger in 2 big accidents that were the drivers fault of the car I was in and my involvement with rallying. I have a twin brother who is the perfect example of who wants to live for ever, I let him drive the Scooby once, never again, he came with me on the RAC and referred to me as a puff for not overtaking on blind bends etc, but when a Mitsubishi EVO 4 had a go late at night going back to Cardiff he went very quite and we nailed his hat on. As Andy says there is a time and place for it all but I still get wood when hit the loud pedal and hang on.

It will likely be from around mid Jan - anywhere up to mid June. running car at least once per week...respectfully of course! The downside is that it would need to be securely garaged and the like.....(ie dont leave it outside nightclubs ) Obviously Id pay for insurance, and probably provide a dial card (if I can find out how you get one)

I still dont know whats gonna happen though, but if you could think about it that would be great

David - you're right, though mine isnt actually a VT, but an SE, and therefore has no viscous coupling (just adds weight) It is quite a cunning system, but is only much use in hard cornering...as you said in straight lines, irrelevant with that much power. which is 636bhp incidently

Question

Which car are we talking about? The Esprit / Marcos or Lambo? Secure storage is not a problem.

I don't do night clubs any more (I'm getting too old! ).....

The Lambo, the Mantis doesn't bother me as Marcos will look after it at the Wiltshire factory apparently

Esprits been sold I'm sad to say....was gonna get another, but think will wait for the M250 now

I get a lot of people here in the US asking me why i want 100 more hp or need to spend such and such on a Prodrive suspension or brakes and my answer is not that i want to go run people off the road and confirm every stereotype about cars with wings and big rims, but instead that i want to be able to jump out of the way of the woman driving her SUV eating cereal and talking on the cell phone drifting into my lane at 80mph. I also want to be able to outrun the odd semi tractor trailer that is barreling down on me as i enter the freeway.

power and handling, like money, buys choices...like the choice not be roadkill because of some morons lack of driving ability

Interesting thread this, made me think about how my driving has changed over the years. My first car was a 1.3 Morris Ital which was lucky to even reach the 70 limit, but I still managed to overtake people on country roads, despite carrying 3 passengers and 4 canoes on the roof.

Looking back (and driving some of those roads now) I can't believe I did it - there's not enough space to pass people in a 200bhp Scooby, so how was it safe in a 60bhp Ital? Answer was, it wasn't safe - but I was young and assumed that everyone coming the other way was doing the same speed I was (ie about 40!).

Now I assume eveyone coming the other way is doing the speed I would in my car on an empty road, and I get passed by 20 year olds in Nova's who don't understand why I'm hanging back, and then don't understand why I pass them again minutes later when the road opens up.

On the subject of racing, us students used to "race" back from canoeing venues in our crappy cars. That didn't (usually) involve dangerous driving because nobody had the power, but instead involved cunning navigation, sneaky use of roundabouts (going all the way around in order the jump a queue turning left, if you see what I mean ) and traffic light avoidance in order to get home first....

How DARE you make such a sweeping statement?!! This type of comment really annoys me.
Speaking from a personal point of view, do you know me? I think not. I'm a relatively new member to BBS and have found it a great source of enjoyment and information.

I think that it's stuck up (and pompous by the sounds of it) 'long term' members that can't handle the fact that their elitist little club has become more and more popular with everday folk.
Of course, this isn't applicable to most of the 'veterans', as, in my brief experience with the list, they've been very very helpful, but unfortunately, it's people like GCollier that will drive new members away.

I, like virtually everybody else (GCollier included) disagree totally with street racing, but, what's the harm every now again, with putting your foot down to get THAT feeling - you all know the one - the grin....

Just my 2p.....

Oh by the way, I'm 27, a lecturer with a wife and child (8 months old), so stupid driving is out of the question......
