Why is this guy getting so much flack??? He's not asking whether people think he was going too fast round the corner, im sure we have all been in that situation where you come round a corner and there is stationary traffic, and so need to slam on the brakes if theres time, or try to avoid it.
As for the headlight conversion, in my opinion it shouldnt make a differance with the insurance as it isnt altering the performance of the vehicle.

I can't believe somebody has the time to trace various posts from the thread starter and get the history just to slate this guy and avoid his innitial question.

This board really has gone to the dogs.

If you can't help with the initial question, move on to another thread or go play with the muppets.

Moderators within these forums really don't encourage users enough to avoid all this bollox.

It's Sunday morning and the suns out so I'm gonna head down the coast and enjoy my scoob

I'm doing a 12 hour shift at work, so I've got plenty of time, I too will be heading out into the sun at midday thankyou.

He asked for advice and he's received plenty of good advice, both about his headlights and also about maybe slowing down a bit. Whether he chooses to accept that advice or not is entirely down to him, he certainly doesn't appear to be accepting any responsibility for the accident, I'd like to think if it was me, deep down I'd be thinking, I just need to be a bit more careful.

As for advice about the headlights, it's already been covered, but for the record, officially all mods, whether cosmetic or performance related should be reported to your insurance company, although I'd be very surprised if it affected them paying out in this instance.

Another interesting point will be whether the Smart car owner will be claiming off the Subaru driver?

I would hope that he goes around that corner slower in future. For me its all part of the fun being in a performance car. Slow down to a nice safe speed, where you can stop in the distance you can see....then nail it when its safe for more speed So much more fun adjusting your speed than just hammering around blind corners.

Slow in, fast out!

It's one of the simplest and yet most useful pieces of driving advice you can receive.

Beware complacency!

That's another one!

You see, you come to Scoobynet for advice on headlights, and go away with pearls of wisdom like those, as well as the answer to your original question.

I'm sure he'd have got a far better response if he'd started his thread with ' hlp plz ...I ran out of talent & ...'

I can't see why messing around with the headlights is a "modification". I wouldn't say anything.

Hard luck about the accident. In my experience (20 years more than you )most people go around blind bends too fast. I nearly ran into the back of a horse and cart the other week which was plodding around a corner taking up most of the road. But I do recognise that if I had hit it it would have been completely my fault.

Real accidents are caused by burst tyres, diesel on road or heart attacks. dl

wrx b is getting flack because he says (roughly in his own words) he was going around a blind bend, discovered stationary traffic, couldn’t stop in time but it wasn’t his fault. and he wasn’t going too fast.

What utter tosh!

Personally, I’ve always been of the opinion that if you are sitting stationary and someone else hits you chances are it will be their fault.

IMO he should count himself exceedingly lucky the police are viewing the situation so lightly.

If he had not made the controversial statements regarding speed and fault then I suggest the flack would be far less intense.

With regard to the headlight mod, I’m assuming we are talking about daylight here. If the accident was at night then the insurance company could argue that the modified lights could have prevented seeing the traffic until too late.

The Advanced motoring bods as they seem to be referred to actually suggest y
ou should drive at a speed that allows you to stop safely in HALF the distance you can see to be clear because someone else could be doing exactly the same thing from the other direction.

Check out the thread title - I would suggest there has been shed loads of Good Advice.

By the way – The Smart Car couldn’t have been that smart or it would have known he was coming and positioned itself accordingly.
