Well I owned one for 1.5y/30k miles and I now have a 310bhp/290lbft scooby and I can honestly say the S2000 was fine. Yes, the scooby would pull away in higher gears/low revs but the only time the S2000 would struggle would be on, say, the motorway at 50mph on a slight uphill after a lorry has moved out the way. In such a case a modern TDI in top would pull away.

i had a test drive in a s2000 and was slightly dissapointed.after having turbo cars the vtec is gutless unless you cane it.i like to just flex my big toe these days to make the car fly.in my civic type r at 30mph in 6th gear gutless.i had to change to 2nd gear to get maximum acceleration which by the time youve done this the granny in the car beside you has just beaten you to the next junction.(this happened a few times)i also found the cabin very cramped and im of standard 5 foot 8" and slim.dont get me wrong i still like the look and reliability of them.my wife also couldnt drive it as she couldnt reach the pedals(5foot 0")without a big cushion.we ended up with a slk 230 kompressor.instant acceleration.metal folding roof.0-60 7.2secs.mind you im 41 now so this explains it. just my unbiased opinion based on 20mins with the car.

subevo, that's a very popular opinion after 20 minutes. In fact, I'd bet most people that are 'into' cars would be initially dissapointed by an S2000 or Type-R, I know I was. But once you get used to them its a whole different game. I'd swap my STI-5 back in an instant for an S2000 if I could afford one. I'd swap it for a Civic type-r if it wasn't FWD.

What might be a little telling about my personality is this: Even in the Scooby wiht all its torque if I spy an overtaking opportunity that doesn't require me to drop out of 5th gear I'll still drop down to 3rd anyway to get maximum acceleration - that's probably why I love high revving n/a engines so much

Nope, never properly riden a bike in my life. In fact, despite being a petrolhead I've promised myself never to get on one. My style is far too aggressive for biking and I'm end up taking risks that I shouldn't. I can see the appeal though!

My love for the S2000 seems to have worn off on the girl friend. She went for a test drive of one on Saturday and really liked it. Looking forward to her sorting out getting one now. I think I am like you SB, the love for the high reving engine and how it drives. Still miss my CTR now and again.

Well, considering I started this debate, I thought I would update you all. This is now parked in my garage, ready and waiting fro my wife to return from France, she has no idea I have bought her a new car.

There are some people who prefer turbo and others who perfer high reving engines, I love both hence having a manic RA and S2000 in the family. Horses for courses, the rush of a turbo give big grin and the way VTEC just roars on gives big grin so really, we are all winers... no loosers here

Both very nice cars - I think I would go for the Z4 myself - however you HAVE to get the big alloys with it - 18" 5-spoke factory option ones look fantastic!

Like all the Bangle designed beemers they look terrible with little wheels!
