My R4 arrived from Hong Kong before my DS did £16 well spent, no need to carry around the carts and nice additional features too.

Some people didn't get their order because they used both codes (I did) . . . but if you feel lucky

I found that my login worked on littlewoods.com but not littlewoodsdirect.com oddly. I just signed up a new account Probably best anyway as I think the £20 code is supposed to be for new customers.

By the way, anyone who wants to test out my nds rom renamer, here you go:
http://www.reefbeasties.com/mt/NDSROMRen.exec

if you're sick of the
xpa-sttae.nds type filename and would like to see Star_Trek_Tactical_Assault.nds instead then you need my exe

instructions:
put the exe in c:\program files
obviously rename back to .exe

put this text into a dbl_clickme.reg file

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\NDS ROM Rename]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shell\NDS ROM Rename\command]
@="\"C:\\Program Files\\NDSROMRen.exe\" \"%1\""

Then run the dbl_click.reg and add the info into the registry
Now when you right click on an nds rom file like xpa-sttae.nds you'll see 'NDS Rom Rename' in the context menu

it should do multiple files, but sometimes it fails. you won't lose any roms tho.
best do 1 at a time.

If you're interested, the first 13 bytes of the rom is the cartridge ID.
Offset H68& is a 4 byte offset to the string area for the game.
H240& bytes into that area is the friendly title of the rom.

Other than the bulkier size is the old DS any different to the DS Lite, as these can be had for around £40 now I believe?

If its exactly the same why itsn't it called an R4DS then!!!! I can return it but they say the product is identical in every way, same factory in China, same parts etc.

Do I return it and tell them to go and poke it and go somewhere else or is it as good as the R4DS and just keep it?
Is it not an M3 DS (M3 DS Simply)? If so, then yes its basically the same, just slightly different software.

From the wiki . . .

Differences between the DS and DS Lite
  • Weight: 218 g (21% lighter than the DS).
  • Dimensions: 133 mm × 73.9 mm × 21.5 mm (vs. 148.7 mm × 84.7 mm × 28.9 mm - 42% less volume than the DS). In Imperial units, the DS Lite is 5.24 in × 2.9 in × 0.85 in.
  • Extended battery life compared to the DS. With a full three-hour charge, the battery will last between 15 and 19 hours on the lowest brightness setting; five to eight hours on the highest brightness setting (both are dependent on the type of game activity).[5] After five hundred charges, battery life can be expected to drop.[5] The DS was supplied with a 850mAh battery, while the DS Lite has a 1000mAh battery.
  • Brighter, more durable top and bottom LCD screens, with four levels of brightness. Custom designed to be more resistant to shock.[6]
  • Larger stylus, making it easier to hold[6] (stylus dimensions: length 87.5 mm × 4.9 mm vs. 75.0 mm × 4.0 mm of the DS). The stylus is now also side-loaded and located next to the power switch, making it easier to reach when needed.
  • Sturdier top hinge.
  • In Japan, the wrist strap no longer includes a thumb stylus; in North America, Australia and Europe, the wrist strap is omitted entirely (but there is still a place to tie it on).
  • The D-pad was reduced to 18.6 mm across (16% smaller than the DS), but the A, B, X, and Y buttons retain the same dimensions. There are lines on the D-pad, a design shared with the Wii Remote and Game Boy Micro.
  • Seven colors: Ice Blue, Enamel Navy, Polar White (Crystal White in Japan), Coral Pink (Noble Pink in Japan), Onyx/Black (Jet Black in Japan), Metallic Rose, and Gloss Silver (see Colors below).
  • New external extension connection, rendering it incompatible to accessories for the Game Boy Advance EXT2 port (power cords and headphone adapters).
  • The power button is turned into a power switch and is moved to the side.
  • The redesign of the system has caused Game Boy Advance games to protrude out of the system by 1 cm. To provide a seamless surface and to keep out dirt, dust, and other debris, a filler cartridge is included.
  • It uses the same processors as the DS, but made on a smaller custom process so they require less power.
  • The built-in microphone is located between the top and bottom screens of the DS Lite, whereas the microphone on the DS is located below the left side of the bottom screen.

They also said its the same price etc etc really trying to get me to keep it. It looks like no where can get hold of the R4DS's at the moment whether in the US or UK.

As you've probably read, the M3's firmware comes out a little later than the R4 updates, but I doubt it'd be a problem. Mine does everything I need it too already, so I'm not too fussed about updates. The R4 firmware doesn't work ont he M3.

Other than that its exactly the same; same menus, same functionality, same skins etc I'd keep it.

Good thread Was wondering how the SD card thing worked and now I know.

For those of you luck enough to heading off to the States you can buy them over there for $130 - we'll that's my plan this weekend anyway. And the games are cheaper as well. (I know you'll need to buy a charger, but they can be got for £5 or the £2.99 with the Argos deal)

i guess we didn't get mucked around as they had stock.

I think it's a small outfit as the delivery confirmation came from a real person's email address.

Updates are just simple file replacements in the root of the card and possibly to moonshell.
