my main issue is with delivery price,as everytime i pm someone with somethin for sale they say its collection only as they are too heavy.the hks ones are goin for 600 so with 15% discount its still cheaper than the hks ones but dont want to commit to find its gonna be 50+ quid delivery or worse i need to drive 400 miles to collect, thats my issue hope that clears it up tho

What spring rates do you advise for classic for the road, and for track?

I've run 6/4 f/r kg/mm and 5/4 on D2's in the past and had great results on track and smooth A-roads ... but every budget coilover I've ever known has 'issues' on a B-road.

Id advise 6/5 or maybe 5/4 for that added edge of comfort for road and 8/6 for general road and track on road legal track tyres. It does, however, depend on what tyres youre going to run. The stickier the tyre the less body roll you want and so the stiffer the spring. Slicks work on pure and outright lateral grip to a large degree so you can run a very stiff spring with them in comparison to a Dunlop DZ02G or Toyo R888 which require help from the body roll pushing the tyre down onto the tramac and thus require a softer spring set up.

Weve been running track cars for years so have gained a decent amount of knowledge about setting road cars up for track although, it has to be said, not a lot of Impreza specific information. As yet that is.

The market for suspenson is such that general retail sometimes has little to do with the quality of the goods being sold. I know of a number of coilover brands being sold at a significantly higher price than ours that without question cost no mores than ours to purchase from the manufacturer. Theyre just being sold with a much higher margin.

I used to sell D2 coilovers in large numbers, I know the brand.

I understand where youre coming from with the ride of general 'budget' coilovers. One complaint levelled at our Gen1 units was that theyre had a narrow range of purpose so our 'Comfy' 5/4 road units were good for that, road use. They had their limitations on track. Our stiffer 6/5 and 8/6 set ups were great for smooth fast road and track but not so good for some of our customers for back road use. They just wouldnt accept that tarck and fast road set ups require some compromise for bumpy road performance.

We therefore moved onto our Gen2s. They have a completely different damper unit that offers superior low speed damping so theyre better equipped for the back road stuff without compromising high speed body and wheel control

I have tried D2 and Apex and I swear, you wouldnt take the Apex off to refit D2s.

As an example of branded products, Ill post some pics tommorrow of our Gen1s and Apexi coilovers that sell at a good 80% higher price than ours. You can make your mind up about whether we use the same factory for the units

Thanks Bren, for the detail of that answer.

Your earlier comparison against KW's - presumably that would be a single-adjustable KW rather than the Variant 3?

cheers

Ok, we will change the number to 5. I need to get these out on Scoobys, once their in the market they will sell themselves.

With the new number of 5 we are ready to go.

We can supply these kits for both the Classic GC8 and later GDB/GDA.

Total price is £504.38 delivered for the normal and £651.38. That includes delivery. You are welcome to collect and will save £17.63 in doing so.

Please give us a shout on 01274 683633 to get involved. We take payment by card, Paypal (with 4% Paypal surcharge), cheque, cash or bank transfer.

The coilovers will be sold at 5/4kg.mm as default, please let me know if youd like to change from these spring rates. If you want to stiffen it up a little then 6/5kg.mm wont destroy the ride. If its a more hardcore weekend car that does a lot of track then let us know exactly what youre doing and we will spec the springs accordingly.

Im looking at buying a GC8 soon for development purposes. Ill use it to commute before I get it to a point where its unusable on the road (which is what I usually do to nice road cars eventually ) and I intend to initially run it with 5/4kg.mm springs.

We can also supply the full range of Whiteline goods with 10% discount when ordered with the coilovers:

Some recent quotes from customers who have just fitted our Gen2s:

Hi Andy,

Appreciate that there's a big price difference between these Apex coilovers and the KWv3's (and that the v3's are more adjustable), but how does the handling of the 2 cars compare? Are you running the same spring rates on both cars?

Curious, because Bren reckoned earlier that you had better handling back-to-back at the 'Ring with the Apex's. Also curious because KWv3's (or whatever their successor is called) are the ones I have in mind for my STi4.

How durable are the Apex's, are the threads teflon coated for example, and what are the warranty terms, Bren?

cheers
Andy

I took a guess that Andy had the cheaper set up purely because I know KWs to be suprb quality and I didnt think our kit, at half the price, would out perform the Varient 3s. Ours are very good but Im a realist so assumed we were talking the normal KW kit. Of all people youd think Id not be underestimating the quality and performance of our our kit

We have had a very small failure rate for our coilovers, last time we checked it was 0.15% damper failures based on total sold. To be fair we have had a couple more failures recently so it will now be slightly higher than that but goddam, sub 1% failure rate in units that we have had on the market for 3 years now!

They come with a 12 month warrenty and we can supply all replacement parts from dampers to springs, to top mounts to damper boots all at very good rates. We have had a number of customers damage struts due to sudden impact (i.e. they crashed!) and will split a complete kit if necessary to get their car back on the road without delay.

Ive just bought this Type RA to allow us to demonstrate the quality of our parts. The Scooby Clinic front brakes and Eibach coilover kit are going up for sale this afternoon to be replaced with KSport front kit and ASpex Gen2 inverted all round.

I intend to take the car to as many Scooby events and meets as possible so that you guys can experience the products for yourself rather than me having to try to sell them. It will be best for all of us, you guys can make your own mind up

Not sure yet. Im going to do some tests against KSport brakes before selling them. The Scooby Clinic brakes sell for £1200 usually I believe and theyve only just (as in a couple of weeks ago) been fitted so theyre not going to be hugely cheap, probably on a par with a new KSport kit.
