I think he was trying to attract attention for rescue or to attract other "normals". In which case his plan worked as he attracted the the other "normal" folk
I quite enjoyed the film personally.

I hope that the second one is a lot better. The first one had some many things that seemed wrong with it. Like the taxi in the tunnel...I mean wtf. The guy had defended his daughter for ages, was clued up and then goes and does that. Just how did all the cars get piled up in the tunnel, and where did the ramp come from to get them over them all? *sigh*

enjoyed the first one a lot, saw it at the flix, and was constantly on edge throughout expecting "a big scare" all the time, and it never really happened.
was OK on the TV but preferred it at the flix.
