Sorry, but here's my take on it.
I don't think my old wrx would keep up to be honest though.

I test drove the ST2 and whilst it was ok, you sat "on" it like a people carrier and it felt sluggish. Sounded nice at full chat though, very old school quattro sounding.
Drove a VXR in the damp/wet and was appalled by the lack of traction when given some beans. The ride was also almost as bad as my sti..lol!! Nice looking from the outside though.

Focus ST:
Kerb Weight: 1317Kg BHP: 222 Power to Weight: 168.56 bhp/tonne
02 WRX:
Kerb Weight: 1385Kg BHP: 215 (218PS) Power To Weight: 155.23 bhp/tonne
Focus ST has had some excellent reviews and it's handling is supposed to be very good indeed (The Stig rated it very highly)
I'm not a Focus ST owner, or devotee, but I think to dismiss it, or any of the current crop of "hot hatches" out of hand would be a mistake. I think most of them would give a current WRX a run for it's money, let alone a 2002 one.
Throw in some bad weather though and it's a different story.
I'll still be buying an Sti though!!

There is a bit of a price difference in the posters choice
Why spend over ten g's when you are considering a car for a few g's?
Personally i would go for the newer car than a well worn thrashed Subaru which face it has had its day.
A standard 12 year old wrx is nothing these days apart from a money pit.
Nik.

mac12 .the difference in price,i think i would lose less on a new focus £20300 (st3),i get £3000 ford discount.
so should get about £15000 worse way in a year.
if i get a £17000 sti,how much would i get in a year, they seem hard to sell.so if i get a cheapy it depreciation should be less.
it will be a second car.

but the ford is obviously newer and therefore would impress the new girlfriend's parent's more than a raw 1995 wrx....

Thats a shame - you are in the wrong place LOL
As you are posting on SCOOBYNET
who have just organised the SCOOBY SHOOT OUT..
...and whats that I see at the top of the page an advert for SCOOBYCLINIC
Have to agree - with many on here the classic was the car. Even now as I am considering my next one I will only consider a classic. The newer ones are not even on my radar.
Just looked at you car Ben - Avery nice understated classic you have there - spot on

As they say in Geordie land "Ah canneh wait".
One thing about classic Scoobs........even with modest power and a four wheel drive transmission system to sap it away.......they do make very good use of the "power at the wheels" that is available to them.

I can't believe the mentality of some people on this site though. I love my Impreza for the way it makes me feel when I drive it, the looks and the noise it makes. It's not massively quick but suits my needs on and off the track. I can't stand the term 'scooby' however - maybe I am in the wrong place!!
A standard WRX is by no means ahead of the game compared to todays hot hatches and anyone that thinks otherwise is deluded.

02 wrx standard and the focus st standard dont think there would anything noticeble between them.
1995 wrx 260bhp standard and standard focus st, wrx would be slightly quicker fact....
well done ford your catching up after 12 years

I took the focus out this march for a test drive before the scooby. The focus was very nice, comfy, felt quick and was very responsive however I then took out what is my 2.5 wrx and wow..... the scooby won hands down.
I had some chav pull next to me at some lights the other day revving the ***** of his engine wanting a race,...... I set off normally he went full mashings and could smell the clutch..... The lil boy part of me put his foot down and kicked his asse. Scooby is by far better.
