Looks better? yes! but better than all it's rivals? now that's a matter of opinion surley!!!

Definately a bit of bias here I suspect.
If it isn't better put together than its rivals then MB has failed in one of its goals for this car.

Mercs used to be the best built cars out there. Bar none. Technically no reason why they shouldn't be again.

But having seen the interior pictures, and yes, only pics, it doesn't look as if its the best built out there but the reality will become clear in due course.

Personally, I wouldn't touch another merc with a barge pole (based on recent and current experience) until they have demontrated a clear track record of build and reliability improvements.

Hopefully the C class will be good in that respect

Agreed, however, they completely lost it when they merged with Chrysler

BMW have also dropped their standards, with the 1 series in particular coming in for serious slaggings for quality.

Some of the mags are saying that there are some odd contrasts in quality i.e some of it appears to be quite good whilst other "bits" are quite shabby in the materials stakes. - get some consistency Merc!
[/QUOTE]

Like it or not, Audi have the best all round build quality I think! - In this sector at least - IMHO!

Rant over!

Interesting comment about the 1 series.

I've just sold mine after a year of ownership, and whilst some of the interior fittings may not have been quite up to Audi standards of materials used, the build quality was first rate in my experience, and way ahead of anything from the mainstream manufacturers.

I'm sure your right, I was refering to the quality of Materials! Top Gear pointed this out. However, on the Top Gaer test against the R32, JC refered to the BMW not liking the treatment it was getting because loads of warning lights were flashing after a day of frisky useage! Whilst the VW had no problems.

LOL

Clarkson's "test" against the R32 is notorious among 1 series owners.

It was the TC light that was flashing - they are supposed to do that..

JC preferred the 130i on everything but interior space. So the Golf won the test between two small performance hatches...LOL...

Go figure.

Clarkson's tests really should be taken with a pinch of salt.
