New Mercedes C Class

Did anyone see the Fifth Gear review ?

Looked a very impressive car. Been to Merc dealer today to put my name down for a test drive (Launch date is 16th June) The salesmas was raving about it, saying its the car Merc have been missing for the last 5 years...

There hasn't been many cars to tempt me to sell my 350z but I think this could be the one :thumb:

I hate Merc's with a passion.

Bought my d1cks who think they're better than everyone else. Plus Merc seam to be in a power struggle with.............. themselves.

How much of the 600BHP+ cars get that down on the road? With traction control flickering away, probably only half of that.

Saying that, After watching 5th Gear, the new C Class was the only Merc that I've ever said I quite like.

However. The basic price of the AMG version will be too much. Spec it up and you'll get a RS4 or M3 with toys and still have change.

PMSL at this little nugget on the website -

CL63 AMG Coupe OTR price: £103,552 *

* On-The-Road Price: these prices reflect the maximum Road Fund Licence and the additional costs necessary to put your car on the road. Included are a standard UK delivery charge (£617.00 incl. VAT), new vehicles registration fee (£50.00), number plates and a full tank of fuel.

Would hope so for £103K!!!:eek2:

I like the look of the new C class too... seems like Mercedes are really putting alot of thought into their new cars which can only be good.

Audi's RS range is right up there with AMG in the power stakes! Except audi's can use that power due to their class leading 4wd system as its king at traction!

This new C class however is a better overall car than the 3 series. Shame about the interior wich should have used higher quality materials!

rabbos 14 May 2007 05:13 PM

^^^ How many AKAs has Audilover got? ^^^

Though LORD OF THE RINGPIECE would have been more apt :)

What part of "up there with AMG in the power stakes" are you strangely deluded about. The base AMG engine has 475bhp in the CLK (which is fair to assume that the new C63 will have a minimum of), which is comfortably ahead of both the RS4 and new M3 engine, which are both rated at 414bhp.
As for torque 465lb/ft plays 317 and 295 (Merc/Audi/BMW), so the Merc romps home here as well. Add to it that your average 4wd system saps probably another 20bhp (and this is a Subaru enthusiast admitting that!), then the Audi is going to be left wanting.
Will the new C63 AMG be left wanting in the handling stakes?, only time will tell, as no-one has driven it yet (much like the new M3), but if reviews of the latest chassis platforms are to go by, then BMW new chassis (as used with the 335i) and the new C350 have pretty much upped the game, wheras the reviews of the new S5 (I'm assuming this is the new platform Audi's will be based upon) aren't quite as glowing.
Time will tell, but if a drag race is the initial proving point (as indicated by the "power stakes"), I'll put the safe money on the Merc.

1. RS5 will have 480hp with 500lb/ft of torque
2. RS6 will have 580hp
3. Q7 will get 500hp with 1000nm of torque

See where im coming from ;)

Z class

Petem95 19 May 2007 11:53 AM

Just watched the review on youtube (guy doing the roadtest was a completely annoying c0ck) but does seem quite nice.

Never been a fan of Merc's, however I've currently got a c-class hire car, and I expected to hate it, but the more I drive it the more I like it...

Build quality really is significantly poorer than Audi and inferior to BMW I would say. Hopefully this has been improved on with the new one.

Haven't seen it yet. But knowing Mercedes the car could be attractive.

Looks really nice in the pics. MBs are no more owned by pricks than any other car. MB have won the looks stakes, they beat Audi and BMW hands down especially with the new C class.
If the handling has been improved I'd be tempted to get out of the M5 and back into a C AMG. The torque on those AMG engines is out of this world.
As someone who has owned a C32 AMG ,M5 and RS4 I think the AMG is one hell of a car.

scoobyduBdu 30 May 2007 07:18 AM

Hey, Terzo 333! I already had my test drive. What can I say-- the interior's a killer!

Glad Mercedes are giving Audi and BMW a run for their money.
The two horse race was getting ever so dull.

Still think an AMG E63 estate is a wicked Q car.

R 14NS R 30 May 2007 09:42 AM

went out to seville a few weeks ago for three days for the launch, the car looks better, handles better, and is put together better than all its rivals. While we were over there, we drove them on a track and on the road against a4 s, 3 series, lexus is, volvo, and the outgoing c class.

this was a real back to back test, out of one, straight into another and the difference was unreal. this may sound biased from some one who works for MB, but we really got to see the differences in similar specced cars, from feel to handling to quality of materials.

the largest engine we drove was the c350, not quite amg, however the 320 diesels have just as much torque as the amg.

Put together better than ALL it's rivals? Not according to some of the early reviews in some mags. Better than outgoing? no doubt! but that wouldn't be hard!!

Looks better? yes! but better than all it's rivals? now that's a matter of opinion surley!!!

Definately a bit of bias here I suspect.;)
