WTF is it with people on here? When will you let facts get in the way of your prejuduces?

Unleaded petrol was 63p a litre in 1997 and is around 92p a litre now.

The biggest rise in petrol price in the last 20 years was from 1993 - 1998 due to the fuel tax escalator introduced by ..... I'll let you guess this bit.

They are all as bad as each other I am afraid. Face it!!!

800,000 children taken out of proverty - why are the figures of those still in poverty rising though (latest govt stats)?

1M pensioners taken out of poverty - and UK pensions down the toilet for everyone else, thanks to gordon's £50bn pension tax. nice.

Sierra Leone - i'll give you that.

Kosovo - partially but late on the case. but NATO should have intervened from the beginning instead of the useless UN.

10 years of sustained ecconomic growth - only because the BofE has responsibility for interest rates. gordon and tony are not really responsible for any of it but they do like to take the credit for the BofE's expertise.

Record investment in NHS - with little to show except redundancies, overcomplexity, a trust system in financial crisis and junior doctor recruitment totally FUBAR. don't get sick this august. they've made the money available (good) but prefer to pi55 it up the wall (bad)

Record investment in Education - rising illiteracy and league tables tables that have comprised the integrity of GCSE and in particular, A-levels. again, no idea HOW to invest.

Forced the Tories to change
- i'll give you that and for that he has my thanks, shallow, vain and dishonest tosser that he is.

Britain has the worst ever trade deficit under this and and any other labour government ($56bn in the red!) with record amounts in public borrowing, increased the overall burden of tax, massive spending with little return on investments, destroyed the pension system, failed on immigration and created a target driven public service tied up in increased red tape and bureaucracy.

But this isn't his legacy, he will always be remembered for being Bush's bum boy and for dragging Britain into a war that nobody wanted and still fighting. A rat leaving a sinking ship to leave Brown as the fall guy!

Thats not true, inflation is now higher than when NL came to power and Ediie George (previous BofE gov) admitted 2 weeks ago that holding interest rates down was a policy that BofE and the government decided between them in order to fuel a housing boom and stave off a recession in the early 2000's. Now we have the consequences to face, increased lending costs to a coutry up to its eyeballs in debt.

The best off are the ones who are on state benefits and getting the first 100k of their mortgage interest paid - between the dole chaque and this you can get about £15k a year from the state, ie equivalant to £15k a year after tax, so a £20k+ wage for sitting on your bum and doing nothing courtesy of those who do pay the tax.
Thanks for that Tony.

For the record Thatcher was neither dishonest or amoral. Love or hate her the one thing you can say is that she was straight, new what she was aiming for and tried her best to achieve it. She had morals and stuck to them, whether you agree with her or not you cannot say she was dishonest or amoral.
Of course if you don't believe in honesty or a good moral grounding then this doesn't count for much anyway, if electrion were won on these 2 issues then TB would have gone years ago.

The people of the UK are only considered when they want to get into office and , then its **** the people when they have the power.

Tony Bliar will get another job easily anyway hes highly qualified in two fields :
1. Ventriloquists Dummy , after all George Bushs arm has been up his **** pulling the strings for years.

Nah, sorry, what we have here is a bunch of losers who aren't worthy of wiping Tony Blairs **** ........ moaning and bleeting and crying that the Government hasn't given them what they want!

STAND UP
I have done.

TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN FUTURE
I've done that too. Not that I had any choice following Labours rape of pensions.

WORK WITHIN THE RULES
Yup, you've guessed it - tick that box as well

GRASP THE OPPORTUNITIES GIVEN TO YOU BY LABOUR
This is where it falls down you spineless gimp. What opportunities would those be? I'be made my own, thank you, and no thanks to Labour.

AND MAKE YOUR OWN LIFE!!
I have thank you.

ie. STOP relying on OTHERS to make your lives better!
I never have, from the day I was old enough not to have to rely on anyone else.

There is huge irony in your post Pete, given that most of what you are advocating above was exactly what the tories were so heavily criticised for.

What you have posted is capitalism at its best, and not at all in keeping with the basic concept of socialism.

Cracks starting to show in your trolling bull****.

And you still haven't answered my question about last weeks election.

Tony Blair will be sadly missed .... what a legacy, a fantastic UK Economy for those who WANT to make their lives better, DO - others blubber
By Bush, for sure. One less puppet.

Would the losers please retire to the background?
That'll be you off then?

Here is my account of Blairs last ten years and his legacy...

He carried on the great work started by John Major in Northern Ireland and the fruits of that labour are to be applauded. A fantastic result, something that 20 years ago could only be dreamt of.

Alas, the positives end there and the harsh reality of a failed man make up the rest of what he will be remembered for.

The war on terror has been a farcical debacle. Years in Afghanistan fighting cave men who happen to know a terrorist who may or may not be the brains behind a franchised global cult, with nothing positive to show for our efforts.

Taking the country to war on the pretext of lies and condeming hundreds of UK soldiers to their deaths in a war they shouldnt be involved in was ,and always will be Blairs key legacy. How the man can sleep at night is beyond me.

I had never heard of MRSA and it's unfriendly cousins killing people in hospitals, nor witnessed the ludicrous triage system where waiting times are "slashed" because some receptionist has asked you why your bleeding from your ears. The NHS is worse now than it has ever been.

For me Blair was the catalyst for the destruction of politics in the UK. 15 years ago, the Tories represented the mid-right to right side of politics, the labour party represented the mid-left to socialist side and the lib dems / SDP / SDLP reflected the undecided liberal fruitcakes and the protest voters... The line from left to right was long and each party had it's hard line and it's more central opinions - a true reflection of society.
Then came Blair, wrenching labour from it's unionist and socilaist roots, rebranding it and dumping it side by side on the same piece of political turf as the Lib Dems... It's hard line lefties left wondering where to turn... Some turned to socialist parties, some fell away and stopped voting but (and this was the gamble in 97 that paid off) most just voted Labour because they could and always had.
Then eventually the tories realised that the New Labour approach to tackling the middle england vote was working and finally jumped onto the same patch of turf as the Lib Dems and Labour...
Now we have a mass of people who are no longer represented in politics and the key driver, the main reason for so much voter apathy is due to Blair selling his party down the river on a power trip just to gain power - bollocks to principles.

Street Crime has never been so high... Blairs answer? CCTV cameras, fewer and fewer police, useless community officers avoiding the rough areas and strolling round the posh ones - just token gestures in dayglow jackets.

Obesity at an all time high with Blair needing a campaign by a slabbering tv chef tw@t to encourage him to actually try and do something about the state of school dinners...

Immigration making a mockery of the ludicrous minimum wage. Introduced to ensure crap jobs get slight less crap pay, but all the while the slightly less crap jobs that earnt that bit more stayed the same... Genius! A pay rise for being stupid and crap while the less stupid and crap get nothing...

Whordes of unqualified eastern europeans building and cleaning and picking fruit while our own nurses leave in their hundreds because of pay and conditions.

A worldwide reputation for being Americas bitch. Targets now for muslim extremists who want to bomb the hell out of our multicultural land why? Bacause of what Blairs impact on global politics...

Cash for honours, Mandelson, Blunkett, a deputy PM who punches people and slacks off, sleeze at every turn... Dragging the reputation of this country and it's poitics down to all new levels...

Petrol strikes, Firemen strikes, pathetic ways at trying to improve PR with stunts like "Am I bovvered", dodgy holidays at innapropriate times...

Exams getting easier, schooling getting worse, more student debt, about turns on privatisation and tuition fees. Employing as many people as possible in councils to hide unemployment figures and for the rest, shove 'em on New Deal as that doesn't count as unemployed... Woeful...

He is without question the most inept Prime Minister of my lifetime (although there have only been 5) who has contributed far far more bad than good to this once great nation.

The public were right to relieve the Conservative Party of their duties in 1997. Alas now we are at a point in British politics whereby the once retarded apathetic constituent, who couldnt be bothered voting and was wrong not to, is now right not to...
All we have wide of the 3 main parties are Socialists, UKIP and the BNP and thanks in part to our FPTP system whats the point in any of it anymore...

All of the above is just my opinion of course... Ta Muchly

Totally agree with that.

What's worse, though, is that Pete's trolling has now produced a thread of some 5 pages - of course, he knew that, and that's why he posted it.

No need to read the trolls comments. It's the same thing that has been posted time and time again, just to garner a reaction, as is to be expected from a troll. If he cannot do it with one account, he'll simply use another, as clearly evidenced on this thread.

Back on topic, I agree with your comments. Blair's leaving is long overdue, he will not be missed by the majority, and I do not envy those who will have to attempt to clear up the mess left behind. One would like to think they can do no worse, and would turn things around. We'll just have to wait and see.

From my point of view this comment sums up everything that's wrong and sick about 'democracy'. Hoping for someone doing no worse says it all.

Face facts these politico bast@rdos want to shaft all of us for their own purposes- just like I would to them, given half the chance. It's human nature.

Exactly the problem with politics in the UK today. They are all career politicians desperate to line their own pockets at the expense of the electorate. Not one of the senior figures in either of the main parties instills in me any real belief that they are there to make the country a better place to live, but simply to get out of it what they can.

As for waiting and seeing, you won't have to as you don't even live here Markus.

Very well said Abdabz, but I think you left out a few points.

1. Stable economy (the one propped up by record amounts of public/private borrowing).

2. Booming house prices. For 'booming' read 'rampant runaway inflation caused by deliberate manipulation of the interest rates by the BoE', and Labour doing ****-all to stop/fix it. Then again, why would they, everyone's rich now!

3. Affordability of houses. What was the ratio of average earnings to average house prices when they got in to power? And compare that to what they are now. Remember when borrowing 3 times your salary was more than adequate to buy a house - I can, vaguely.

4. Record low levels of unemployment. It was a stroke of genius to simply not count people on incapacity benefit, illegals, people unemployed but not actually claiming anything. Well done Labour.

5. Pensions. Lol, well I would laugh but being robbed of what you worked hard to put away for the future smarts just a little.

I agree and disagree with many things that have been posted, the present Labour Government has failed in many areas, pensions, crime, NHS and it may cost them the next election. I certainly didn't vote for them in the local elections.

What can't be argued is the vast majority of the country (who are 38ish+) will remember the Thatcher years with disgust. To acheive her political and economic aims she put millions out of work, smashed thousands of families and plunged hundreds of thousands into massive debt.

If any modern Government tried to do what she did in current times or interest rates and housing issues reached the same level the Government would be overthrown.

Thatcher was loved by a small percentage of the country who happened to work in the financial sector at the time.
She is currently loved by people who think she was some sort of visionary but are too young to have lived through the reality.

I like Ricky Tomlinson will not shed a tear when she passes away but I'll have a drink and hope we never have another PM with so little compassion or feeling.

Cheers

Nah, you are making the mistake of living in reality, far better to live in the world of Scoobynet where under her reign as Prime Minister the UK was Utopia and then some
