Regarding **** lewis's post about unmodified, I agree to a point.... whether it be a M3, 5 Turbo, Alfa GTVV6 etc etc, the unmolested examples are always the most sort after.

That doesn't mean the modified examples are not worth looking at (for all u keyboard ninjas)

Bought my bugeye with 55000 miles on the clock, had an RAC inspection and they said the clutch was about half way through it's life. Obviously as others have stated this may vary from car to car, so might be worth getting an RAC inspection done regardless.

people make me chuckel, just cause a cars standard in trim form etc doesnt mean it hasnt been thrashed, why do people assume this ??????

My car im sure was thrashed in japan, had coilovers/boost/oil pressure and oil temp gauges but then it had a remote oil filter and oil cooler fitted so the guy took the neccassay precautions to keep it running o.k

how do you know if a clutch has been changed or not, the fluid level is no gauge as it can be topped up.

my car has 70k on it, with th emods the guy in japan did, very well i must say,no corners cut etc,im hoping he replaced the clutch, all that sideways action called for it im sure

It is true that it depends how you use the clutch to a great degree. slipping it excessively for whatever reason does not help it along and sitting in a queue or at the lights with the car left in gear tends to wear them unnecessarily and could also cost you a new clutch thrust bearing prematurely. Not too good for the crankshaft thrust bearings either for that matter-not much surface area on those.
