If its one of Iains cars with the miltek exhaust then you wont have any problems, will run pretty much 400bhp with the turbo upgrade, upgraded injectors and a couple of other minor bits.
Also not known one JDM Twin scroll engine to let go, they are very strong considering they dont have those dodgy cast pistons

Tony
Aah!, but they do have those dodgy cast pistons.

If I recall correctly several tuners have exceeded the 400bhp mark without opening the bottom end up. Indeed Scoobymania were running nigh on 500bhp on the standard bottom end without any problems. A Greek based tuning company got 475bhp on the standard bottom end with the original top mount intercooler! Although they had extensive fuelling and cooling mods.

Opinions will vary. On an STI I would think not. Turbo, fuelling upgrade, exhaust upgrade and a decent map will see you on your way.

Infact forget the 400bhp figure, optimise things on an STI and without changing anything major like the turbo you will get fairly close and save a lot of money. The drive will be great and then in due course if you want to go further the option will be there.

So what would you suggest on a STI then?? Just an Exhaust 3" re-map uprated fuel pump and induction kit??

Serious question though David
How many twin scroll turbo engines have you seen with broken/melted pistons compared to the uk/jdm forged ones
Truth is, those hypereuetic pistons seem to be able to take boost very well (the 2ltr engines not the 2.5 which are weak) and are meant to be stronger than the forged pistons due to the alloy and casting process.
Your input would be appreciated

Yes without a doubt, although the induction side probably can be left alone. With those mods on a JDM STI it will be a lovely car to drive. I had a brief flirtation with the dark side myself a while back with a 400bhp evo seven. Whilst it was undoubtedly a fantastic car it was very synthetic and clinical. The Impreza whilst being dynamically shaded makes up with more character and generally more satisfying drive IMHO.

Once you have done the stage one mods and decide after that you still yearn for power then go for it. Initially I would keep my money firmly in my pocket. Listen to Staffi he talks sense.

OR for 18995.00 you can have my own car, which incidentally is on Eastenders in 5 weeks time. Being the car supposedly belonging to some wide boy [ Now, Now!, no comments please, I've had enough of that here at work.....]

2003 JDM vers 9 Rally Blue, WRC lookalike bonnet, 6500 miles only, with Tek3 Mega Rom by Bob Rawle with launch control, 800cc injectors, 3 inch Janspeed decat, ported twin scroll headers, Owen developments VF37 turbo with inconel wastegate and Garrett exhaust wheel, 80 mm induction. Walbro, AP Racing strap drive front brakes with DS2500 pads, Eibach 30mm lowered spirings etc etc.

I have pics I can mail to a proper email address if you wish. Fuller spec as well.

Now that sounds a nice spec for you taylor, all the mods already carried out..good milage etc...

I`d of been interested in this if i hadn`t spent every penny on my RA...

Tony,
Thats not exactly true now is it, regarding the PS Stage 4 price you have quoted. The price you have quoted is assuming it is already at a certain level beforehand. So not really fair highlighting that against what API has quoted.

Make no mistake...... power and reliability costs money!!! I could buy another Spec C for what the latest round of mods on my car cost.

True... the JDM's (same as anything else as David has pointed out) seem strong. Mine hasnt missed a beat in 2yrs and see's loads more action than a high % of owners cars...... but as David says, not much information exists as benchmarks so its all subjective really.

Shaun.

I'm curious about this, having only had a 10 minute shot in an Evo 8 to date. In what way do people find the impreza a more satisfying drive ?

Andy, i wouldn`t say in my experience having had a Mak that Subaru is more satisfying to drive, i just think it has a little more character, the exhaust note for one, but all this is just my opinion, evos are awesome cars...

The character element for one (admittedly subjective). The interior is better in the Impreza (unbelievably), I found the Evo a tad hard, harsh even so at slow town speeds the Impreza again came trumps. Little things like the clutch action and gearchange I prefer in the Impreza.

TBH, it`s going to take some Subaru to impress you with the power you`ve got in the evo unless you go out in Zens..

What exactly are you looking for?? i knew when i bought mine it was going to loose out on the Mak after 120 or so and it`s pretty hardcore being an RA, but i wanted something that would give me a buzz at the weekends and this certainly does... when it`s not at API having work done that is..

For a new age euro STI:

Sports cat 3" exhaust
650cc injectors
MD321h turbo
Walbro fuel pump
Hyperflow cold air induction kit
Ecutek remap

£4200 inc vat fitted.

390hp at 1.45bar with those exact mods, on a UK STI 7, standard headers, standard TMIC, standard engine. The same build of bottom end has done over 40,000 miles at around 400hp in another car.

sorry to throw this in, some of us are just lucky I Guess

Bearing in mind the car did already have APS DR725 FMIC, & 3" sports cat exhaust, I managed to get it up to 420 bhp & 385lb/ft for £2600,

Perrin Rotated mount turbo kit £1500 (comes with everything you need including Garrett GT 30) needed some special mods which I done myself at no cost to fit)
650cc Sards £250
Headers £250
Remap £400
Equal fuel rails £200

Quick Reply: How to get 400ish bhp??
