Unhappy

I feel it is likely that your premium will go up at renewal given all the feedback we've had above and the way the insurance industry is right now - claims from motor, floods etc, however, as long as it doesnt go up by 2k next time, your still better off in the short term.

Copied from a mailing list I am on:

"That was the most fun I have had renewing insurance ever!

Called around; Privilege were cheapest I called. Prices below (and
why I called them in the first place).

Norwich Union 436 TPO, 650 FC+1K XS (cos they insure N1TUT)
Collonade 1,200+ (pot-luck-random little guy #1)
Gan/First Quote 752 (current insurer)
Barclays 880(cos I figured I would get them to beat privilege)
TaylorPrice 1,100+ (pot-luck-random little guy #2)

I have 3years unprotected NCB.
Me + wife
1(not at fault) claim for me
1(at fault) claim for her.
Modified vehicle (brakes uprated, snigger).
<9Kpa, Garaged, all the usual alarm stuff.

My fully comp quote from them was cheaper than TPO from anyone else
(by 25p).

£350 excess, £662.55
£1,250 excess, no legal protection pap, £435.75

After the normal preamble, the discussion was hilarious:

Me: What's the excess on that?
Libby (for it is she): £350 - £250 mandatory, £100 voluntary
Me: OK - can I change that?
Libby: Sure - what to?
Me: Is there a maximum?
Libby: No - not really.
Me: Oh, only your colleague told me £1000 was the max.
Libby: No - we can do anything you want.
Me: OK - try £10,000!
Libby: Hmm - there's not room to enter that!
Me: OK - try £9,999 :-)
Libby: click-click-click - hmmm - excuse me one minute
(on hold music)
Libby: It seems the maximum we can do on that policy is £1000
voluntary plus £250 mandatory, that comes to £452.60.
Me: cool - let's do that. What else can we do to make it cheaper -
there must be something else to take off?
Libby: You realise that if you have a crash, you'll have to pay the
first £1,250 yourself?
Me: Sure - who cares - my philosphy is to pay you guys the least
possible, no matter what, provided I am still road legal!
Libby: You're mad!
Me: It gets worse - later I am going to ask for a third party only
quote!
Libby: For a £20,000 car?!?!
Me: Buttons - anyway I need an excuse to buy a new car :-) Now what
else can we take off the policy to make it cheaper?
Libby: Only the motor legal protection, and thats only £16 for
£50K
cover - surely you want that?
Me: You must be kidding - take it off!
Libby: (sigh) OK, that's £435.75.
Me: how about taking off the windscreen cover?
Libby: nope - its free.
Me: anything else?
Libby: nope - look, just take the policy will you, I want to go home!
Me: Alright, seeing as you put it like that, I'll take it.

I did ask for a TPO quote, but it was more expensive, and anyway they
would not actually do it because of car value. Afterwards I went to
ask about the impact of modifying the suspension. She needed to know
how much it cost to modify. Anyway, it seemed to add more to the
excess than the premium - I have lost the figure, but I think it went
from 1,000/474 to 1,100/492.

She was a good sport, despite my messing around. I only hope that I
never have to claim off the policy (which as you all know, I avoid at
all costs)! At the end she said - any problems, call us back, but
please don't ask for me :-) (Actually, earlier on she asked me to
marry her, too!). I can recommend calling them just for a laugh, and
its cheaper than a dodgy 0898 chat line!"

Perhaps Tom could do him a good deal by offering a policy with a £20,000 excess
