I was thinking about getting my MY02STi PPP (with backbox replaced by an Afterburner Vortex) remapped, but wasn't sure which place was best in my area. I guess Power Engineering are closest to me - anybody got any recommendations?

from what i've read, the PPP cat downpipe is one of the best out there and has very marginal loses over a decat, certainly if you're sticking to 2.5" i can't see other downpipes giving a noticeable increase?

the other pipes are straight thru pipes, so marginal difference there (if you change the resonated pipe that is) and a b/box again will be marginal difference. if you like the sound of the PPP exhaust, personally i wouldn't bother changing it

i'd love to see figures to prove wrong, but the best flowing 2.5" exhaust would give you what, max 10bhp/torque over the PPP? and that would probably give you a headache come MOT time

and to echo allyj's comments, unless you're wringing every last bhp out of the car, i can't see the point in restricting yourself to v-power either. my old classic was mapped to optimax and TBH that was getting a pain in the **** planning trips around shell garages towards the end!!

you'll get a transformed car with a remap, even if you go conservative with the map
So the PPP exhaust won't be too restrictive then?

I am still deliberating whether it is worth the money if the objective gain is only 10/10 over the 300/299. Will the car really be transformed? I really want to do it (money now burning a hole in my pocket) but not if I can't justify it.

Not worth spending ££s replacing the PPP parts. The hi flow cat downpipe is a very nice piece of kit and the backbox and rear cat replacement pipe will all flow fine too... just replace the OEM centre resonated pipe (£90ish).

So is it just the centre section that needs replacing prior to remap? Would I be right in saying that the centre section is a standard part (ref. Tonys post about OEM)? and wtf is a resonated pipe?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge but I am keed to do this now and I really wnt to do it with the best balance of price and power whilst retaining the PPP components whereever possible.

no worries mate, hope i'm right with the info i'm giving out!

newage exhaust is made up of 4 parts.

your PPP exhaust is a prodrive sports cat downpipe (this is the only cat pipe of the system)(no.1)

the next pipe along is a prodrive decat pipe (no2)

then there is a std subaru resonated pipe (this is not stainless and is a kind of muffler/sound reducer)(no3) this is about the only part worth changing to complete the full stainless steel system and give a small amount of noise increase. i bought mine 2nd hand for about £60.

lastly the Prodrive back box, only need to change if you want a louder noise.(no4)

from what i've read up, the downpipe cat is about as good as you'll get, any difference between backboxes is pretty minimal and the other 2 pipes are just that, straight through pipes.

i'm sure someone will say that you can get a better flowing section of exhaust if you go for 'blah' make, but i'd love to see just how difference there is

so all in all, your PPP exhaust is a good exhaust and if you want to keep the cost down, just remap it with that in place. if you've got £60-£100 spare, get a de-resonated pipe (although i believe you can get resonated stainless pipes aswell, i would expect them to be dearer though)

oh, and a remap will give you BIG

Thanks for the explaination Hoskib. My Father was a mechanic but my mechanical knowledge is just rubbish. Sounds like a stainless steel de-resonated centre section is the way to go, then remap.

I don't want to change any of the prodrive stuff and I find it loud enough as it is.

Just got to get senior management approval for the expenditure..........

Thanks,

I guess I will be looking at 90 + 650 = £740. Going to need serious negotiation (even if it's my money - and i'm not even married!)

I hope it's worth it.....

ported headers
k&n panel filter.

guess the final figure and closest wins a special prize
Going off my results at P.S I reckon 345/315. Thankyou.

Strange that

My UK Sti made 336bhp (at P.S)without the ported headers or 3 port boost solenoid.
My torque was only 302 though.
