An old 1.2i (1992) Vauxhall Nova.......I once drove whilst my R5 GTT was being re-sprayed.
Felt like it was an animal.....but wasn't. Great little motor .
Or have I missed the point of the thread? Sorry.

Not really - Much time is spent debating nano second differences in performance that will never get used or compared anyway. A big chunk of the fun is the buzz you get from going fast (even if there is no-one else on the road). Reckon Caterhams and the like must be pretty high on this factor.
Still think this is one of the most ridiculous threads yet for scoobynet.
1) What is the point of it?......you say the point is from getting a buzz from going fast.... so a car that feels fast, but is not going fast, equals a bigger buzz?..... so why are you all driving scoobs then?
2) There are many cars that do not "feel" fast, but give a massive buzz. A BMW M3 for instance is fast, relatively speaking it does not feel it because it is so well put together, however the buzz it gives is huge because of the way it drives and handles etc etc.
The fun factor or buzz as you put it is not solely down to how fast a car feels..... that is just daft.

Just simply want to know what cars can offer more bangs for your buck in the straight-line department. Actually going fast is nice but its also nice just to feel yourself being slammed into the seat. A car that can do that without dialing up obscene liscence losing speeds can only be a good thing

Drive a Caterham at 100mph, then an SL55 at the same and tell me which one feels faster....
I'd also say 0-60 in 5secs in a mid spec caterham feels quicker than the same in a 1500kg barge that can do the same and is therefore more grin inducing.
(ps - I do get your point though - Caterhams are certainly not slow though)

Fair enough doing 120 odd in my Westie feels different to doing 120 in my Golf, but acceleration wise my Westie feels quick, which it is.

My Renault 5 GT Turbo feels like a rocket ship, but in real world terms it aint that quick and in reality it's nowhere near as quick as my daily driver (S14a 200SX) although it "feels" it in the lower gears, just a combination of very little weight, close ratios and the turbo kick.
Another car that feels very quick is the 106 GTi, I used to have one years ago and the Mrs has one now, a hoot to drive, again light in weight, close gearing and a revvy engine make for a lot of fun.

maybe in 3rd gear & above, but they don't feel that special in 1st & 2nd due to the long ratios, I thought this about both my GTi-6 and my Rallye
once rolling though, 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th are really closely stacked together and they go like a train, the ratio's definately help

No Rich....Jontos was apparently a 'quick one' but for some reason he feels it was slow. I just wish I could get a fast car like a standard WRX instead of my slow bucket
