The trouble is that the publishers have been handling it themselves on the PC for years, and just look at what a mess that all is, (I gave up on PC online gaming a while ago - just too frustrating). Having a unified online experience where the look / feel / operation is pretty much the same in all games is a good thing in my book. Especially for the less technically minded people out there

You don't have to do that on xbox either though. The downloads are tied to your live account (not the machine), so if you change the xbox for a new one, you can just download it all again. I've had to do this so can confirm it works ok (having been a 3 red lights victim a few times).
I wasn't aware of that, it's good to know. However you've got to admit it's pretty cool being able to download and play it at a mates house without buying it again.

That does seem quite good, but I wonder about the legalities. I can see people (especially kids) buying 1 copy, splitting the cost between them, and installing on 4 machines. This effectively quarters the potential profit from any game released in this way. Not sure that makes business sense...
Oh to add... I was winning a couple of games of Pro Evo and the gits disconnected from Live. It said I'd been awarded the win but don't think this shows in your stats? In fact the only times I've looked like winning and they've done this

I think sony have had a bashing on this before so they are playing it 'safe'!
Sorry Tim but this confuses me. Why haven't you taken the 360 online then but you have the PS3? I found the 360 a doddle to use once on Live. All very easy and I was very sceptical about it as thought it a bit geeky but have to admit it is great. Adds so much to the games. Playing Pro Evo against people around the globe is great.

I will have another go at 360. I'm a bit wary though because I know that once I start using it I'll never be off it.
I tried to get on Live once, couldn't get it to work so just gave up and didn't bother again after that. When I set my PS3 up on Friday I couldn't fail to get it online, it almost did it itself.

I found it easy enough. Biggest thing was setting my Wifi up but that's not down to Live. I think you may be able to register on the internet which would save the hassle of inputting your details via the controller. Not 100% on that though.
Gears of War is great on Live.
