The embassy incident looked rather staged. Apparently the students in question are "close" to the Iranian Prime Minister, or in other words were doing his bidding to attempt to put pressure on the UK.

The question is, if an Iranian vessel entered UK waters, would we force the crew to go on TV the next day saying how corrupt their Govt was ? I don't think so !

Moses, can you spread any light on the political situation in Iran ? Seems there's an Ayatollah (sp) that is above Ahmadinejad and is getting abit fed up with his antics ?

mate not the ayatollah khamenai but other ayatollahs r,see iran is a democracy if u believe it or not but ahamdinejad cant really dae **** all till the supreme leaders let him and they have so many different departments, its confusing sometimes

but their r other leaders who r fed up, they think he is cuckoo, but personally i believe he is cuckoo but i luv his upfront stuff aboot zionists and the usa and all but his other rhetoric i dont like, also he made promises tae students and poor and how he will help them but he did try but the other leaders r putting a stop and muzzling him, see in the west made we only hear of his silly extreme stuff but if u look at the middle eastern news and other stuff he is trynna dae, he aint as extreme as some other folk in iran, actually he wanted tae open up the doors for wimmin so they can get better jobs and also even come tae football games wae their families, but the extremists put a stop tae it

the nuclear issue and sanctions have actually united some moderates wae ahmadinejad

i will try tae find some of his interviews on the german newspapers actually quite good

and also if it wasnt of his rhetoric mate and silly craziness, i believe if he had someone decent tae deal wae in the uk or america and if the occupying forces werent in iraq threatening iran and this palestine issue, i believe he could have got somewhere and actually made peace wae the west

i will dish em oot for u if u want, i swear i read all news and stuff on the net and stuff coz when im at work i got my pc their so thats all i dae if i have a few mins spare, im highly political

Something that might make it clearer - Ahdminejad was previously a high level member of the Basij, the 'student' group more than likely responsible for the attacks, he was also an officer in the IRGC Intelligence. You don't get to that kind of position without being 'reliable' in your belief of the regime in Iran. Protests do not happen spontainiously in Iran, and anyone who honestly thinks those attacks happend without the support of the regime apparatus is on something.

It was a Basij action, supported by elements of the Iranian Government against the British Embassy. An Act of War. Simple as that.

I'm not normally a Guardian reader, but this article, written by Terry Jones (of Monty Python) struck a chord.

The apparent sanction of the existence of Guatanamo Bay by the West will always bring its reward eventually.
