Whenever slavery is mentioned (at least in an African/Carribean context), I always get the impression that there is a "Whites bad, Blacks good" agenda behind it. Well, I'm typing this in a New Orleans hotel room having visited Destrahan Plantation this afternoon. 150 years ago, the population of Lousiana was divided into Whites, Free Men of Color, and Slaves. Free Men of Color were allowed to own (and did own) slaves. Their title gives a bit of a clue as to their skin colour....

Add to this the Africans that sold their brothers to the slave traders and the "White bad, Black good" idea is somewhere between rather simplistic and downright wrong.
