The cage is finally in, with some important extras.

Cage is a full group N multipoint t45 weld in cage from custom cages.

The install started at 9.30am and finished up just before 2.00am, the cage went in quicker than I expected but all the extras added up to make it a late one.

All stripped down ready for install, a glass fitter came and saved the day and got it out for a good price.

Some extras the guys fabricated for chassis stiffening like the Group N cars.

Cage going in

Cage all done.

Seat tubes and crotch strap mount for the 6 point harness.

Finally a fitting for seat and wheel, note the OEM column all stripped down.

The quality of the workmanship is amazing and whilst it's been an expensive exercise I'm really glad I have done it and taken the car to the next level as a competition machine.

The safety element was my priority but after driving the Zen car with the same cage the difference between my car with the 6 point and the Zen with the weld in was chalk and cheese, chassis stiffness and the cars general behaviour should be transformed and more competetive all round.

Big thanks to Zen for the loan of their facilities, advice, ideas and loads more above and beyond the call of duty as usual.

A long way to go yet but were up and running in the right direction and the car should start to take shape very soon.

Looks absolutly FAB Rob!
You will love Epynt, fantastic hill, long and very demanding with an awsome finishing straight.

It is no joke the return road is 2 to 3 miles long.

It is!

Look forward to seeing new competitors, I think we have one rally EVO coming at the moment and possibly a WRC Subaru.

Rob, was it Hans doing the welding for your cage? I'm dead impressed that you got all of that done in a day... although granted a 16 hours day...

No it wasn't Hans, it was some very skilled welders my brother put me onto who worked very hard to get it all done in a day, albeit a very long one.

I hope my new fuel 'pot' holds enough to get me that far!

Some of it is down hill/coastable, but not much...

I hear there are a lot of cars in the Midland in C1 and 4 of us in C2 but we won't get merged thank god!

Knowing the road rather well, there is actually quite a bit that's coastable. How big is the fuel pot and what do they do to the gallon? 4 or 5 maybe?

We could arrange for a fuel can to be deposited with the block car at the top if anyone is going to have particular trouble. In a safe environment of course!

I'm sure it holds plenty, I dread to think what it will do to the gallon though.

I got all my midland stuff through the other day Graham, is 4 in c2 enough for max points? A real shame if it's not.

How many in C1 mate?

Rob thats the same tank I have in my car, it will be fine for a blast and the return, I'd imagine it's capable of two runs no problem.

Cool, although I imagine my right foot spends more time on the floor than yours so 2 runs for you 1&1/2 for me

Yeah, but you don't use a lot of fuel when on the brakes You need to learn that that you have two feet that can do that job too

4 in the class will not get max class 6 points.
I always thought you needed 6 in the class for max points, but havn't read the regs for years.
I got the impression there were at least 6 in C1 but Tony was in no mood to converse too much...

The TVR will do just 2 Midlands this year!

Brecon are taking just 80 cars for the event Rob so be quick.
That tank looks quite a size to me so should be fine.

Don't miss this hillclimb, it really is very good and the whole day ran really well last year.
Be nice if the Irish Darrian with a full-house Millington on slicks stays at home, or is in another class this year!
I thought I had second FTD last year, but it seems that a few Mk2 Escorts were way in front of me according to Mr Parr.

Perhaps I will go in the road going class this time if you are doing c3.
Will be on soft Kumhos this time.
Entry already on its way to Wales. Fingers crossed.

.
You were on 61.94 Graham, it was Graham Hollis who had a 61.41 and Seamus of course who won. Tim Duffee has registered his interest in getting Seamus back..........

That Darrian was a serious car, and I've NEVER known an Irish race car and driver to be slow, EVER!
Trouble was, he was a really good bloke too, so can't slag him off!

I think Rob will tease him this time in the flyweight Impreza.
Hope I get an entry. I want to get into 5th on the back straight this year and hope I've the brakes and the b@lls to make the right hander at the end...

I only enjoyed 3 hillclimbs last year, and Epynt was one of the 3.
Be good fun in the 911 too!

Hope you are further-on than John S Rob.

Sending my entry off today so hopefuly will get to find out.

My car is further on than John's but still a long way off, however I don't have a back up car to turn to like John. I'm bringing it back here tonight so i can paint the cage and re fit everything I can over then next week or so, I will be able to do a lot more hours on it and give it a really good push before then engine and fuel system go in at Zen.

Cunning Scotish action, or just a smoke screen, or you started the 'all-nighters' a while ago.
Mr Twemlow will tell me the truth soon enough!

For both of you the season opener is just around the next corner.

I've just had a reminder of what 230 bhp/tonne, no LSD, 1B tyres, no power steering or brakes feels like, and you both will be getting rather more this time!

Looks like I will too....considering I won our championship last two years, I hope they give me an entry as it's round 6.

Being a Hill climb novice, (only done Shelsley) I guess I will turn up and learn from the porfessionals!

Epynt is so new, last year many a hillclimber ran it 'un-sighted' and being a full mile long it iis too long to walk before the event. We were all taken up in batches as a slow convoy which was a really good idea.
The rally lads know the course/area very well.

There are 2 venues that I really look forward to, Epynt and Barbon Manor.

I hold the class record at Barbon (!) but I think it will be blown away this year! Still, I've got the Cup! my first and only real hillclimb achievement.

Remember there is a 1A class and slicks class.

Rally boys in Mk1's are quite quick as well, this one is coming back as a film is being made about him. That means he'll be slower but even more fun to watch!

body roll or what!

Just got confirmation my entries to Epynt and Barbon are accepted!

Scooby on Kumhos, and 911 on Kumho's.....

Will be interesting. Now, all we need now is a port stike in Ireland at the right time...but we will have our secret Scooby weapon: Rob!
